3.2 Wissey Valley Cherry Stout A - Rich dark black put against the light you get a red hue. tan pillowy head that lasts the entire beer S - Chocolate, cherries, metal, malt and a hint of alcohol. Not a heavily scented beer and the alcohol only came through towards the end Taste - like it smells, minus the metal and alcohol, which I was pleasantly surprised by . very sweet, but just what I am looking for after dinner this would go great with dessert or a cheese plate. . . tonight, for me, it was dessert. Sweet chocolate cherry aftertaste, may be too sweet for some, but i like it sweet and right now it suits me just fine. M&D - A bit carbonated at first and I wouldn’t think about drinking more than 1 (and I am splitting this 500ml bottle with the wife). Good for the moment but this beer is made for certain moments, meals and moods. Monday, August 27, 2012

3 Wissey Valley Captain Grumpy Busted Flush Cask, at Newark Beer Festival, May 2004 as Wissey Valley Busted Flush. Amber colour. A straightforward best bitter with the accent on caramel and fruity malt. Modest earthy hops and bitterness. OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Wednesday, February 24, 2010

3.2 Wissey Valley Cherry Porter Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Dark reddish brown. Slightly woody aroma with marked roast malt and subtle cherry - it is there but doesn’t leap out of the glass. Quite light mouthfeel. Some fruity malt and tart notes in the flavour but, again, the cherry is rather understated. Decent enough effort but maybe a bit short of presence and light on the cherry. 3.9 Wissey Valley Khaki Sergeant 500ml bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. Black, lasting rocky mid beige head. Deeply intense dark choc aroma. Bit of whisky malt too. Wow, that is good. Really good dark choc up front and then some sour dark cherry on the finish. My god this is good. Just lacks some depth in the middle. This is great, why isn’t this beer more widely publicised? Love the choc and dark fruit finish. Super, darling. Monday, October 5, 2009

3.4 Wissey Valley Cherry Stout Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. Shared with JoeD. Poured as dark as the Sisters of Mercy’s wardrobe. Aroma emitted a touch of Cherry mixed with roasted maltiness. Flavour was not overpoweringly sweet and the cherry mingled nicely with dark chocolate notes. Finished dryish. Pretty enjoyable in my book. Wednesday, March 18, 2009

3.2 Wissey Valley Rocket Fuel A Sim rate (Smithfield Hotel fest): Smokey, sweet and barbequey aroma. It’s Heinz BBQ...maybe McD’s. Hint of red color amongst the translucent black. Decent lace in dots throughout the glass. It doesn’t have a great flavour. It’s dry, with a malt that lasts only a few seconds and a sweetness that prevails. Sunday, February 8, 2009

2.9 Wissey Valley Maid of Ale Bottle conditioned, 500ml, from Bellingers Garage, Grove, Oxon. Gold with big chunks of sediment white volcanic head, luckily I was in the kitchen. The big chunks were off putting as they were noticeable in the mouth, some sweetish hoppy notes with a vague fruitiness and a touch of herb. It was ok after a bad start. 2.8 Wissey Valley Old Grumpys Dark Mild [500ml bottle from The Little Beer Shop, Blofield, Norfolk, England] Roasted malts with a little smoke dominate aroma and initial taste. Some dark chocolate develops, with a little coffee by the end, although roasty malt is still the main falvour. The texture is rather watery, and is particularly let down by the excessively prickly carbonation. Friday, December 26, 2008

3.5 Wissey Valley Stocking Filler Bottle. Orange and slightly cloudy with no carbonation. 3.2 Wissey Valley Hopaholic 08 Heady varnishy walnut aroma with an almost bleachy, disinfectant hop harshness. Softening chocolate malt biscuitiness, apple when you tip the sediment in, musty English aroma hop. Tawny with a dissipating beige head. Moderately dry, shampoo bitterness, berry fruit, mostly choc, maybe cherry. Bitterly nutty, then creamily choc-accented. lingering Hobnob dusting-of- chocolate afters with hints of smoke. Some harsh persistent bitterness, but that doesn’t make it hoppy. Decent, if a bit misleadingly named. Thursday, October 9, 2008

3.2 Wissey Valley Auld Spicy A Mes rate: bottle thanks to our Magic. Hazy red brown with a slight off white film. Slight egg and sulfur notes but the excellent blend of spice, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon and chili comes through really well. Well, I say they show through well but it’s mainly down to the fact that most of the beer qualities are gone and it’s just the adjuncts that are left. Thankfully they’re quite tasty. Interesting and unusual. Sunday, September 14, 2008

3.5 Wissey Valley Auld Spicy Bottle from Kris wines, shared with mesandsim.
