3.2 Derwent Carlisle State Bitter A pint enjoyed in April 2004 - above average bitter (in a year in which I seem to have sampled a lot of average brews!) Amber white head, caramel malt but a nice bitter finish. Sunday, November 15, 2020

2.9 Derwent Silloth Porter Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival on the 4th October 2019. Cask, handpump dispense, 1/3 pint sampled. Dull black in colour with a thin buff head which fades fast. Malty aroma with light roast grain notes just about evident. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malt gives a light maltloaf base with weak chocolate malt and dilute treacle but couldn't detect any orange notes in this. Slight hop prickle comes through in the light bitter aftertaste. Finish is malty but chocolate starts to fade away unfortunately. A poor Porter overall. Friday, October 18, 2019

4 Derwent Silloth Porter Cask at the Dog Beck, Penrith. Brown-black with a thick beige head. Smooth, oh so smooth. Smoother than James Bond's bum when he was a baby. Rich filter coffee overlays a milk chocolate background with some fruity notes (apple and orange) and a little kick of spice in the finish. It's sweet and feels surprisingly decadent considering the lowish abv. It made a damn fine after dinner beer. Yum. Monday, September 30, 2019

2.8 Derwent Cote Light Cask at the Sun Inn, Ulverston. Light to mid-gold, big white head with a huge amount of lacing. Very clear. Lemon, soap and ammonia in the aroma. Bitter taste with a fair bit of sulphur. It grows on me, and repeated sips reveal a sweeter, almost honeyed edge. Slips down easily enough, but it struggles to be even average.
