4 Millstone Stout Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish drown with a small foamy cream head and good lacing. Roasted malts and dark fruits are the mainstays of a decent aroma. Plenty of activity in the mouth too. The texture is sweet and creamy with a slight smoky edge to it. Flavours of autumn cruits and chocolate with some hints of salt, and spices emerging later on. 3.3 Millstone True Grit Handpull cask at the Borough Arms, Crewe. Light gold and clear with a film of white head. Light gains aroma with notes of lemon and lime. Bittersweet taste with a grainy and slightly soapy character, with the bitterness increasing to the long finish. It's a well-crafted beer but I don't find it that engaging. Not surprised by the high rates although I don't share their enthusiasm. Saturday, October 2, 2021 | |

4.2 Millstone Old Thomas Bell Tasted this at the 31st Paisley Beer Festival on the 26th April 2018. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear pale russet in colour with a thin white head. Malty sweet aroma with notes of glace cherry and floral notes. Thick syrupy mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malts give a rich chewy fruit cake base with sweet rosehip syrup, cherry bakewell tart, figs and prunes. There is a light hop bitterness which adds a soft earthy, musty note to the short resiny aftertaste. Finish is malty and sweet with raisins, sultanas, red cherry, prunes, rosehip syrup flavours full in the mouth. Lovely example of a traditional English Old Ale, excellent stuff.
