SilkTork	2.6 Sakara Gold March 2025. Back in Egypt. Drunk this at Khufu's Restaurant overlooking the pyramids, and on a Cairo evening cruise with belly dancing and whirling dervish dancers. I like it better than the other Cairo regular beer, Stella, but not by much. This is ok. A fairly regular pale lager. [2.6] Oct 2002. Having just spent a week on the Nile where this was the only beer readily available I am surprised to find some people (notably mostly Egyptians!) have given it a high rating. Pleasant enough for a country which doesn't have a history of brewing beer [OK - I should perhaps say recent history. Despite the Nubian beer "boosa" giving us our familiar word "booze", the ancient Egptian beer bears little resemblance to what we drink today - no malt, no hops, but plenty of fermented bread and fruit] - the Egyptians seem to have a knack for reasonable copies, their red wine was quite delicious - it was still a little too lifeless to consider buying if there was any sort of choice. Simple clean pale lager taste. Genuinely seems more like a 10 degree beer than a 10 percent beer. However, I do resurrect the old alcohol test, and that does indeed confirm the numbers on the label. Aroma is sweet, boozy, grain, stewed fruits, slightly metallic. Sweet, with moderate bitterness. Medium body, sticky, average carbonation. Sweet boozy alcohol finish, bit on the harsh side, not awful and pretty much got what I expected from a 10% malt liquor.
