(from old notes) - Aroma : Medium toffee malt, hints of toasted brown bready with a light dark fruity hoppy note. Taste : Body is on the thin side of medium. Moderately bitter throughout. Over-riding flavour is the toffee malt with a light sweet fruity background. O.k. but only pretty much standard for style

Draught (Merchant's Inn, Rugby) (6-:3:6:3:12=3.0-) Mushroomy aroma. Light palate. Malty bready barley taste, but oh-so-dull. Twiggy bitter finish. Better than the other two here, not sure if over-rating relative, or underrating because not impressed with venue.

White Park White Gold
Cask at Swan, Farnborough. Sour floral aroma, with peppery traces. Bright gold. Equally bright white head, marred by some blotchyness. Sweet at first, develops a citrus/malt flavour. The citrus becomes more prominent as I drink more. Light. Soft. Long finish. At first I was underwhelmed but it grew on me. Goes down well.

Hazed deep golden color with a small white layer on top. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a bit to soft carbonation level. Malty, mild bready and fruity flavor. Not very inviting this one. Mostly because it was to flat and warm.

White Park Park Light IPA
Bottle from the Blue Glass, Bedford. Drunk at home. Tawny brown, hazy, with a generous loose-ish off-white head. Toffee apple, crystal malt and a touch of cardboard. Tastes pretty good - some light bittersweet malt - but by no means extraordinary. The hintiest hint of astringency on the finish. Well-carbonated body, I can’t imagine this would work as well on cask. Like many of White Park beers, it’s competent and solid but doesn’t excite.

Sweet chai tea aroma. Flat watery palate. Bit of green apple retronasals and in taste. Dull. Almost chemical. Rough. Dry acidic bitter hops in finish. Minerally. Anna thinks it just acid. Could the the pub’s fault - there was a trend...

Bottle from the Blue Glass, Bedford. Mid-brown, looks a bit thin. Reasonable carbonation. Very little head. Malt, cereal and hazelnut aroma. A lot more bitter than I expected, slightly astringent. Some of the nuttiness of the malt comes out in the finish. Despite the thinnish body, it’s got a nice texture. Verdict: a decent enough beer when all is said and done. A bit different from similar malty ESBs.
