Albert Heijn XL Eindhoven

Probably the largest AH XL I’ve ever seen, not too far from Mitra Van Bergen, but the beer selection is the same as of every other AH. They do not even have some locals like some other do, so mainly the usual craft range and Belgian standards are available. Decent prices of course, but not worth a detour at all. Edit: Five years later, they do stock some locals like Van Moll and 100 Watt, apart from that it's pretty much the same like all the other Albert Heijn stores. Even the Gall & Gall next to it is sub-par, stocking only very few beers and also mainly the obvious Belgians and well-known Dutch micros.

A large version of the well known supermarket. A lot o different beers, but few interesting ones. One very positive thing though: IPA from cans.

Hmm should i rate it, or not? well lets do it anyway, typical selection of any AH XL, large selection of macro brands, some brewdog and other ’’craft’’ beers are being added. If you are in the area i guess you could visit.

Happened to stumble upon while roaming around Eindhoven. Huge place, probably the biggest Albert heijn XL I’ve seen in the country till now, reminded me of the american Walmarts in a way. Didn’t have too much time to waste so I headed straight for the beer section. The typical macro stuff along with some trappist beers, all the Chimay for example, some Gulden Draak too. A shame that they don’t sell the beers from the Eindhoven based breweries. A couple of fridges too full with Bavaria radlers and non alcoholic beers. A piece of advice, scroll past and go striaght to the Gall & Gall next door, not that it has THE selection but it surely has more "crafty" beers, I got some Brewdog IPAs there.

Probably the biggest supermarket in the Netherlands. Food selection is wide and special and the beer selection is okay to get a start with Dutch beers. You get the standard beers, e.g. La Trappe, Jupiler, Maredsous etc. plus some seasonal ones, but just nothing that special and spectacular.

Let me start be telling you, who reads this review, the Dutch Ratebeer part have been discussing of adding a Dutch supermarket in the Ratebeer database for quite a while. Though nothing was added and the topic seemed to die, I added this Dutch Supermarket and checked on most (if not all) the beers available and added them here as well. Guess everyone who visited a Dutch AH XL can add their review here. *********************** Ok, on to the review: what can one expect in such a big (big for the Dutch at least) supermarket... Lots and loads of food! All kinds of food. A pretty big wine selection and some other stuff like, books, dvd’s, clothes, animal stuff, etc. And the beer selection. Imo (one of) the best selection a Dutch supermarket can have. To check on the beers, see the list with available beers. Do I need to add more... The score: Ambiance, com’n it’s a supermarket. Service: again, it’s a supermarket. Selection: for a (Dutch) supermarket quite broad. Food: there is so much hence the 10.
