“Visited April 2024. It‘s an old wine store located about 15 minutes walk from the train station Roma Ostiense that sells also canned and bottled craft beer, mostly Italian and English craft, all for 6 EUR. There were really nice finds (especially beers from Hoppycrat, a new brewery for me, whose beers are awesome). Possible to drink outside. No taps available, so service, that might help you choosing or finding beers. If you are in the area, worth visiting.“

“Visited April 2024. This is truly a beer place. The love for beer is visible in every corner of this bar. Around 12 tapped beers, thereof 3 Franconian Lagers or so, the rest is local Italian and European craft. They have even 3 cask options available, which I have never seen in continental Europe. And many more bottled beers, especially sours and geuzes. Very crowded, many beer lovers (and ordinary drinkers) come here. Prices are reasonable and start at 6 EUR for 0.44l. Great place, which you should not miss.“

“Visited April 2024. Small craft beer bar in a quite neighbourhood in Rome. 6 beers on tap, two German classics, Punk IPA, two IPAs, one of them Italian, the other one Irish. Many, many canned beers refrigerated, hard to overlook, since there are no signs or prices, but assume they were all Italian crafts. Prices should be rather high, had the Irish IPA on tap for 6.5 EUR. Friendly staff, chilled alternative atmosphere. Cool place.“

“Visited April 2024. Small beer / wine store. Mostly Italian local craft, some international gems from Ireland and UK. Very friendly staff, helpful, nice conversations. Prices high, but reasonable. Possible to drink onsite. Worth to check out if you’re around.“

“Visited in July 2023. Small pub in Trastevere with a world class selection of beers. Good mix of local and imported stuff, with a focus on traditional styles. Lots of casks, kegs and a big bottle selection. Crowded, but worth it. World class.“

“A grocery and wine shop with a beer selection in one corner inside. The beer selection is mostly cold however there are some warm for take-away. Quite a few internationals as well as a few Italian craft and main-stream which are priced accordingly. Outside are tables where food and drink is served however if you want a seat then a booking is necessary. Good to visit if close by.“

“Medium sized place which seems to be popular with the locals. More like establishment where people come for dinner, snack, to watch sports or hang out than a craft beer place. Good selection of 13 beers on tap, some usual suspects, but also some very interesting and good Italian craft beers. They did have some of their own beers on tap, but not sure if they are brewed on the premises. Worth checking out if you're nearby.“

“Medium sized place with a bar in one side of the room. Solid selection of 6 beers and 1 cider on tap. More than 50 bottles and cans, definitely some new ticks, but nothing too exciting. Friendly service. Worth checking out for a beer if you're nearby.“

Bir&Fud Bottega (Beer Store)
VIA LUCA VALERIO 36
“Old school beer shop/bar. Plenty of tables inside to sit at and a bar with 4 or 5 taps and about 150 bottles in fridge and on shelves. Some interesting stuff I haven't seen elsewhere. Seems like a very local place, understandable given it's away from the popular tourist routes. The owner was super friendly, ready to recommend beers and chat with us. Worth checking out if you're nearby.“

“Wine shop with a patio outside and several tables inside. Interior felt somewhere between cozy and cramped with all the shelves and tables very close to each other. Friendly service, we got some snacks with pour beers. Beers selection is several fridges with mostly cans, some imports, mostly Italian. There should be at least 100 beers to try so everyone should be able to find new ticks. Good choice to get away from rain in Testaccio which is quite empty beer wise. However no need to get out your way.“

“Neat little place with several taps and a couple of fridges plus seating for 20-30. Good Italian craft selection and diverse EU crafts, (Brekeriet to de Struise). A 20 minute walk from the train station. It’s worth it for early evening, but appears fully reserved later.“

“Great place a little off the tourist track in Rome. And, unlike the whole rest of the city, they were actually open in late August, though they were pretty empty. Lots of Italian taps and lots more beer available in the fridge, to drink in the bar or to take out. Friendly staff--as the one dude about his Megan Fox story. They have a store next door, but I was closed when I visited.“

“Visited this place a couple of weeks ago before August shut down. Great craft beer bar, with a mixture of good Italian stuff, mostly from Rome, and other stuff from Europe. Service was OK--very Roman. Lots of good bottles here too, including Hill Farmsteads, which is surprising to see in Rome. Lucky I hit this place before shut down, didn't manage to make it to Closed Baladin.“

“For a visit to Rome, this is as important a place to visit as the Coleseum and the Vatican. Baladin creates legendary barley wine and also a nice selection of well made beer in many styles. From a wide selection of taps well known beers can be sampled together with different season focused beers. For the beer geeks, it is probably particularly interesting that several vintages of the more exclusive bottles of barley wine are available for sampling from small glasses. Main focus on Baladin beers of course but there is also a nice selection of handpicked, high-quality beers from other breweries. I don’t know if something special was happening that particular evening we where visiting, but every single table was reserved from nine o’clock so we had a limited time available and no time to try the food at all. But my impression from the place and the helpful staff was all over very good. Hope to come back one day, and will be making a reservation anyway then.“

“Visited 2020. Visited on an early Saturday evening. Large and modern gorgeously designed bar with many large rooms. Very popular but also lots of space. Prices are in line with other locations in Rome, very slightly bit better even maybe. 40+ taps with quite a wide selection for Rome style-wise including a smoked beer and a cider made by Baladin themselves as well as a Barley Wine. Excellent selection with about half of it Baladin beers which are excellent and the remainder veering to Italian beers and a few Belgians. Some minor surprises like a Dochter van de Korenaar beer on tap. Service was very quick and attentive. Selection of beer and food caters to everyone Baladin has their own Coca-Cola, there are also gluten free options for beer, food as well as 4 vegan burgers / sandwiches available. Got a vegan burger, old school plant based patty, quite solid but not great. Menu is deep and wide, didn’t check bottle menu. They did offer 4 different Xyauyù variants & you can samples of all 4 for 20 euro. There is a small shop by the register with prices similar to the bar not usual in Rome. Overall just gorgeous space, quick service and a really stellar tap list, really outstanding and comfortable place.“

“Visited 2020. Visited first time on a Saturday evening. More people standing outside, drinking and some smoking tobacco and a few otherwise. Crowded but interestingly largely outside, there is a room in the back where there was almost no one, hot and weird looking too. Display cases of seriously OMT empty bottles. Good by Roman standards beer prices. TV playing in the first room & downstairs their a surprisingly comfy area. I started digging the place a bit more upon my second visit, did it during day, bit too quite even. The place grew on me. Most important of is the beer selection. The guy behind “Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà” started importing beers in the early days of the Italian beer scene and he is the reason why there is still so much great Franconian lager to be found around. Good selection of spectacular condition Franconian lager on tap, great crisp classical Italian beers, two cask beers from UK, BFM, Cantillon on tap, all things I totally love but yeah the lager it fully sold me damn son. The fridges had a small but very impressive selection raging from cool haze to quite an impressively rare Jester King. Half pours available but large pours are standard for regularly prized beers. Only place I visited twice on my trip & one that I would have loved to frequently venture. Deserves the reputation for sure.“

“Visited earlier evening on a Saturday. Another amazing place opposit Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà but a totally different one. Apparently owned by a large macro these days (not sure)? Nothing shows that whatsoever, really beautiful incredibly deep slick and modern bar. Crazily long counter and more restaurant spaced tables in the back. Quite efficient service and plenty of taps with the vast majority of them being Italian but with a couple of tempting looking lagers, a sour etc. Not all the more usual suspects. I had a pizza marinara which I thought was really good. Prices for beer & food in line with Rome. Excellent place.“

“Visited on a Saturday evening. Smallish store, lots of stickers, different kinds of wood. Some locals hanging out when I arrive, someone was smoking inside but went outside as soon as I arrived. Selection is split about 50/50 between shelves and 3 fridges. You can drink inside and there are some chairs outside as well. Semi-improvised feel to the furniture. Good selection ranging from DE lagers to hoppy Italians to Belgians, in line with lots of other places I visited in Rome. Prices were bit high compared to bars in some similar set ups. Mostly so for the high end stuff, the standard Lambrante I picked up was 5.50 euro for a 330 ml. can but the Xyauyù they carried was 16 euro’s more for a full bottle than Open Baladin not too far away, Cantillon, De Ranke 750 ml. bottles were quite pricey as well. Solid but preferred other places a bit more & prices felt a bit steep.“

“Now this is an interesting place for sure. Located by the river, board pointing with an arrow inviting tourists that there are 12 taps of craft beer on & lets you know where to go. Far more interesting place than you would expect from the noard. Tiny hole in the wall place, very friendly owner. This is a crowling station basically, whatever you get is crowlered in a small or large can. There are two flimsy chairs outside so you can sit there & choose to get an open can to drink from if you want. Or you can just get a beer for your walk or whatever. Selection had Bibir, Mikkeller, Ca del Borgo etc. & most interesting they make their own beer! Two of their taps were their own beer, I had a fairly nice Oud Bruin which approximated & was bit better than the regular Rodenbach. Prices in line with Rome, definitely worth checking out.“

So Good! (Bar)
VIALE AVENTINO 87
“2020 Visit. Visited on a Wednesday evening. Quite a small local bar with some outside seating effectively almost doubling its capacity. Took me too long to figure out how to use the door. Totally full with expats and locals. All purpose toilet, both sexes, disabled and baby changing station. They do sandwiches which seems to be a focul point of their. 6 taps only and nothing that immediately spoke to me tough but not bad choices. Services was good, aimed at you doing multiple of the same beer. Quite comfy once I got a chair which took some time since it is equally small and popular. Quite a bit of rotation on the beers it seems since one got changed when I was there. Comfy and nice but tap selection is nice and not bad but not the most exciting. More fun as a neighbourhood than a destination bar I would say.“

Luppolo Station (Restaurant)
VIA G. PARINI N°4
“Visited Saturday evening. Very nice old school wooden Victorian looking pub. Spacious, comfy chairs, plenty of people. Large projected board with the beer list. Quite a good beer selection, Italians (hoppy and lagers), something German, one lager from Mikkeller. Prices fair in Rome. Fair service, some tables arranged in more restaurant style. As I was there a band was gearing up to play consisting out of contrabass, guitar & something that looked like a wooden board of sorts? Overall very nice place.“

“2020 Visit. Visited Monday afternoon. Modern bright and quite big, two rooms down, outside seating, top floor. Okay service. Very close to the Vatican. Clear amount of tourists. Quite an interesting tap list with bit more sours than usual in Rome. One Dugges, common in craft bars in Rome Belgians. Some interesting bottles. Untappd screen list, I like Untappd screens but not if they have continuously rotating pages, hard to read what you want because they keep switching and you need to wait. In this place they had like 11 rotating pages because they put their bottle menu on the Untappd screen, small pet peeve of mine. They focused a bit on tramezzini with heavier grilled bread for food. Crazily long impressive list of available coffees. Prices felt quite high, a tasting tray of 4 beers was 20 euro which is definitely steep if you get beers like De La Senne. In line with their elevated tap prices. Probably should have picked a coffee, good for sure but prices felt a bit too steep & Rome isn’t cheap for beer to begin with. I only spotted that they had 3 of their DE lagers in Holsfass as I left :(“

“2020 Visit. Visited Monday evening. Local feel to the place, lived in looks like a former snack food place. Untappd screen menu. Bit more of a residential area. Service at the bar. Tables were quickly cleaned, few snacks like a pretzel advertised. Lots of people outside when I arrived & very lively, turns out that happy hour was ending. Happy hour is until 21.00. Once it did then everyone left :) Prices were amazing during happy hour. I got a big glass of an Italian Helles for 3.50 euro & a glass of Oud Beersel lambiek with elderflowers for 4.50 euro. Good selection & amazing prices during happy hour for Rome.“

Birra + (Bar)
VIA DEL PIGNETO 105
“Visited on a weekday evening. Chill neighborhood place that is halfway between bar and store but largely more of a bar I would say. Comfy not too big but enough place, few chairs outside. Solid tap list which included a beer made in collaboration with Birra+. Tap was largely Italian. Fair prices in line with Rome. 3 fridges of beer which featured a more interesting selection than the draft, few less common Italians and beers ranging from BrewDog to hip new cool cans. Few less common nice items. Bit more International beers than usual in Rome. Very nice place.“

“2020 Visit. Smallish neighborhood bar, visited on Wednesday evening. Small number of locals present. Toilet door didn’t close, 3rd bar for this to be the case in Rome. Lots of stickers everywhere, old wood, some comfier seats. Limited bottle selection & small tap selection of largely Italians, some German, things I didn’t see necessarily elsewhere. Bit too small but decent selection. More good for something local to you than a destination bar. Music was touch loud which was good since they were playing quite good post-rock and obvious as well since apparently they have a live venue downstairs. Foosball present as well. Good local place maybe cool for a concert but not essential for a detour.“

“2020 Visit. Out of the tourist area for sure and at the end of an abandoned road, more industrial area brewery style. More residential are is actually not that far away. There is a ballet studio next to it. Sparse but nice and clean inside, long shaped. They do food like nacho’s and stuff. 5 taps available on visit but seems like it can be 5. More of their standard offering on tap, good prices & they do crowlers, the labels on their crowlers are quite nice. Service helped a lot the waiter was very enthusiastic, explained the beers, answered questions and briefly showed even some stuff in the brewery. Beer is okay to slightly above it and they do flights. I didn’t see special bottles which might have made the trip a bit more enticing but on the other hand I didn’t ask either. Bonus points for excitement.“

“2020 Visit. Visited late on a Wednesday evening. Bright, modern, glass, lots of staff & right about fully food. Beer, extensive wine & food. Decent prices, food, wine and beer all get equal focus here. Taps were largely Italian beers, decent selection more in the lines of Foglia d’Erbia, MC-77, Jungle Juice. All of the staff wore Jungle Juice hoodies & the brewery is a short walking distance from here. I had some hand cooked chips with thyme which were nice and interesting. Prompt service.“

“2020 Visit. This is an actual store and as such no drinking inside unlike many places in Rome. Lots of wine and lots of beer. Fridges of beer also available if you want something. Selection was very impressive with lots of special Italian releases I hadn’t seen anywhere else and lots of cool international beers. Far away the most impressive bottled selection I saw in Rome. Price are Rome-styled so high just like everywhere else or rather in line with everywhere else. Very impressive.“

“Quite shocked to see this place on Rate Beer to be honest. In my younger days I used to make a point of finding a Hard Rock in whatever European city I was in, now my palate has matured, you wont find me anywhere near one (Unless we fancy a microwaved burger and a generic piss lager) Don't get me wrong, they're decent enough, but not a drinkers place, just another typical chain with the same generic food & drink. There's far more better places to go in the city.“
