COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aqua Vita Porter is a very special brew, this is a powerful porter that has been aged in old Akevitt barrels for several months. We use this technique to blend the 2 flavours and the process has produced a very special beer. We think the flavour of this beer must be very close to how historic porters tasted in the old days when all beers were kept in oak barrels. This is not a beer for the faint hearted, its rather rustic in flavour and aroma. The barrel ageing comes through very well in this beer, the usual acetic flavour from contact with oxygen in the barrel, the spill over of the Akevitt flavours and of course the wood flavours. All this combined with the darker malts makes it unique. And the aroma is so powerful and interesting it just makes you beg for a sip. 6% alc. ABV, 32 IBU, 112 EBC. Serving temp. 10-12C or 50-55F

Batch 225. 10% ABV. This beer made me drive 600 km to clear out 8 different stores for this brilliant stuff. The later batches fell to 9% ABV and the remake down to 6% ABV. Chickens.... Pours black with a large creamy beige head. Extreme strong and complex aroma of coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, prunes, wood, spice and some sweetness. Flavor is very complex of the same, full bodied, very creamy mouthfeel. This is one of those beers that you could just enjoy the aroma of for an hour before tasting it. Just two left in my cellar :-(

magdalar (516) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - MAR 24, 2012
Bottle courtesy of Toni from Erzbierschof. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of sour cherries and dark fruits with subtle hints of vanilla, and finishing with a fine roasted malt and chocolate. Tastes very tart, with dark red cherries, sourness, vanilla, and a mild bitter. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, silky and oily texture. An excellent and amazing beer.

Thanks to Markwise for this one. Aroma is cacao, carob, some slight roast and vanilla. Wood. Taste is similar with plenty of roast and sweet vanilla. Oak is written all over this one but in a mild way, giving this brew great flavors.

Chipalsa (1310) - Florida, USA - FEB 11, 2012
This porter was special. There was a nice and chalky, earthy presence among mellow cocoa notes. In the background was a nice and oaky undertone that had a nice texture as well. Quite the beer, and a big thanks to Markwise for sharing.

500 mL bottle from Green’s Beverages in Atlanta. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. Nose is spice, slight booze, licorice, wood, slight chocolate, and dark fruit. Flavor is similar. I am not sure what Aqua Vita tastes like, but it does some nice things to this porter. Flavor swells with anise, the darkest of chocolate, roast, and dark fruit. Medium to full in body with some lingering spicy licorice and dark fruit.
