UPDATED: MAR 16, 2020 Whispering off the tongue with tinges of cortisans and electric eel, this ale leaps at you like a ladyboy trying to steal your wallet. Complex to the palate, nearly missing the bus, laughing dog will laugh all the way to the bank and beyond

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2019 The aroma is a slight coffee/chocolate. Pours dark brown with tan head and fully diminishing head, good lacing. The taste is a medium bittersweet. The body is medium/full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish long. Very Good!!

It's hard to tell if the mild acidity and tart flavor is the beginning of an infection (like with so many of their bottled beers) or just the acidity from the coffee. In this case, the tartness light and not unpleasant, so I'll lean toward it being the nature of the coffee being used. The beer pours an opaque, near-black body with an inch of dark-tan head that settles to a thin blanket. The nose is vanilla, coffee with cream, dark-roasted malt, and dark bread, but also some tart cherry, which just seems weird for a coffee porter. On the palate, there's plenty of coffee, but it's not fresh, black coffee, but coffee that has cream and sugar in it, and there's a suggestion of tart red cherry here. The medium-sweet malts are dark-roasted, but not very bitter, though there is a touch of husky, astringent mouthfeel. It's medium-plus in weight, medium-minus in carbonation, and slightly dry from the coffee. Overall, this is not one of the better coffee beers I've had. Not sure if the coffee itself is giving the slight acidity and astringency or the brewing process, but either way, the end result is the end product that I'm drinking, and this one is just 'pretty good.'

BOTTLE. Pitch black, espresso head. The aroma has quite a bit of coffee, chocolate, cooking chocolate, but also hops with notes of grass and mint. Similar taste. Rich, smooth and easy drinking body. Moderate slightly vegetal bitterness. Really nice.
