COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For the Christmas and New Year festivities the Gouden Carolus range is now extended to include this seriously heavy strong brown ale. Het Anker are thus rekindling a long lost tradition from the days of yore when they marketed Cardinal Christmas and Anker Christmas.

25/01/2015 @home, 33cl (2013) bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck. Full dark brown colour with nice tanned head. Aroma : dark fruits, caramel, spices. Taste licorice, dark fruits, caramel. Nice thick mouthfeel. Way better than last year, it was too alcoholic then, way more balanced now. Buy this and put it away for at least 1 year. Curious what it will be with one more year aging.

Strong licorice aroma, caramel maltiness Pours a murky brown color with small wispy off white head Licorice flavor with bread, caramel, a tad boozy, sweet. Cola like. Full bodied, med CO2, some alcohol warmth, lingering bready sweetness in finish It's an enjoyable sipper. Well balanced, but not all that complex. Licorice or anise that was added overpowers a bit. Would go well with a hearty dinner ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[Tap] Chestnut brown pour with a dense beige head. Sticky caramel, brown sugar, gingerbread and licorice in the nose. Flavors of nutmeg, dark rum, cinnamon, fruitcake, more licorice, sweet molasses and allspice. Lighter cocoa and port hints. Sticky mouthfeel. Lingering sweet finish cuts the alcohol down to barely noticeable levels. Rich.

Pours a deep mahogany with a thin white head. Almost a brandyesque aroma. Taste is quite alcoholic but good.

750ml 2014 years vintage brown corked and caged bottle with a nicely designed Christmas themed label, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is clear dark mahogany with a large frothy beige head that settled quickly, leaving a little lacing. Aroma of spices, syrup loaf and orange peels. Flavours of spices, syrup loaf, orange peels, dates and liquorice. Taste is medium-light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied, soft texture and average carbonation. Gouden Carolus Christmas is a great seasonal brew, its strong and flavorful, with traditional seasonal spices and just the right amount of sweetness.

Pours a dark brown color, topped with a decent beige colored head. Sweet and malty aroma, notes of sherry and some spices. Taste starts sweet, a little flat, some wintery spices in there, but quite malty. Not my favourite.

A cm of creme-brulee head, medium-fine, frothy, on top of a very cloudy medium-brown liquid with chunks of sediment afloat therein. Aroma is light caramelized raisin, bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, cherry, clove, touch of pine, hint of cedar. body is medium-heavy, syrupy, moderate carbonation, coarse, medium-light burn. Flavor is spiced candy, bread and toasted corn muffin. Holly. A touch hot. An OK Noel - Im not a huge fan of the spicing. I wish it were cut in half or to a third, even. A bit cloying in terms of sweetness in the flavor. Additionally, the body is excessively heavy for a Belgian style. Perhaps the beer should have been more highly attenuated in fermentation. I dont feel like finishing it...
