UPDATED: OCT 13, 2021 Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted dark malt and fruit aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy rich sweet flavor with a moderate to heavy boozy sweet finish of medium to long duration. Standout.

juiceisloose (3847) - Windermere, Florida, USA - AUG 25, 2021
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2021 750 ml batch 2 bottle from 2014. Pours a very dark brown color with a mahogany hue and capped by a thin tan layer of foam that fades quickly to the body below. The aroma is really nice showing notes of dark cocoa, toffee, dark fruit with a hint of cherry, and some brown sugar over a rich toasted caramel malt base with further depth from the apple brandy and old oak. There is a whisper of vanilla in there as well. The flavor follows with the rich, caramel, toffee, dark fruits, and apply brandy from the oak right up along with notes of molasses, caramelized brown sugar, and old oak. The apple brandy still shines here and adds ample depth and smoothness to round things out with a touch of barrel warmth on the back end. Full bodied and smooth with soft carbonation that leads to a mostly sweet toasted caramel, dark fruit, apple brandy oak, and toffee on the finish with a nice dryness to tie it all together. Really awesome barrel aged barleywine here and one that has held up incredibly well considering it is 7 years old. Awesome stuff and glad I finally got to try this one.

From notes. Enjoyed at the 5th Annual Barleywine Tasting at Travis and Nicole’s house on February 03. 750 mL bottle, 2014 vintage (batch 2). The pour is a nice dark garnet tinted brown/black color with a thin ring of medium khaki colored head and a spot of lace as it falls to a thin collar. The aroma is fantastic. There is a big time brandy and caramel on this one before the dark fruits move in and take over. A light molasses and a hint of burnt sugar follows that up with just a kiss of oak and a warming brandy finish. The flavor is much of the same. The balance of the apple brandy, caramel malts, burnt sugars, and molasses is just wonderful. The oak really helps mellow this one out, and there is just a kiss of booze on the back end. The mouth feel is heavier medium bodied and softly carbonated with a lingeringly smooth caramel, molasses, and brandy finish. This is a damn good beer. Whoa baby. 8 5 9 4 17

Slightly translucent mahogany brown color, thin beige head. Caramel, apple, vanilla, oak, burnt sugar, and some molasses. Batch 1 is woodier, drier, and more bitter. Sweet, full bodied, and moderately carbed. Long, somewhat boozy finish.
