COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The “Old Time” series is a collaboration with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The base beer (a Belgian-style strong dark ale) for all four Old Times was originally brewed in July 2011, then aged in a variety of oak barrels, some with and some without a blend of brettanomyces, lactobacillus, and pediococcus.

Brandy Old Time was aged for 18 months in three Laird’s apple brandy barrels without any wild yeast/brewing bacteria.

On tap at cbc. Old note. The aroma has caramel, brandy, fudge, earthy yeast. Bit hazy, brown coloured beer with an off-white head. The taste is light bitter and has caramel sweetness, brandy, dried fruit, earthy yeast. Medium-full bodied beer. Nice.

Poured a cloudy brown color with aromas of light apple brandy, some light horse blanket and a touch of dark fruits. Flavors were light funk with apple brandy smoothness in the aftertaste. Solid offering from these guys not over the top sour in my books.

Bottle... Pours hazy and brown with a small, short-lived, off-white head. The aroma is a mishmash of damp oak, toasted malts and apple brandy. Full-bodied with a viscous mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor is sweet as Hell and toasty. Plenty of apple brandy here, but no real heat. Finishes sickeningly sweet - absolutely cloying. That’s too bad. Westbrook beers are always promising and they usually deliver.

750, i waited a while on this one to see if the bugs would eat some of the sugar from the other ones. This was still very tough to drink. Lots of complexity though, definitely one to share

FROTHINGSLOSH (15634) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 18, 2014
From the October 2014 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color - almost black - with a small foamy beige head that faded quickly and left no lacing. The aroma was apple brandy, tart apples and apple juice. The flavor was sweet apple butter, brandy, a boozy presence that worked and apple cider. Very long sweet boozy apple butter finish. Thick and full body. Amazing!!

Pour from bottle at What the Funk!? 2014. Appearance is murky brown pour with no head. Big raisins, figs, plums, light oak, caramel, toffee and brown sugar in the aroma. Taste is sweet prunes, dates, brandy, bourbon, wood, caramelized sugar, and toffee. Very very sweet. Slick mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Ok, but nothing compared to all the other offerings of this festival.

Bottle. This was a nice change from all the sours we had this night. Even though it does have wild bacteria, the brandy barrel kinda takes over this one which is not a bad thing. I love apple brandy. One of my favorite liquors hands down. Tasty taste!
