Ale brewed with spices. The first in my "Letters" series. Rich yellow gold in color, highly effervescent. Sugared spice aroma, tart and refreshing with a hint of citrus an candied ginger in the finish.

UPDATED: JAN 7, 2021 750ml bottle I bought from the NRG Provisions store. Not sure how it was cellared, but it was. Pours a darker gold, little bit of hazy with some soapy white head that faded to a clump. Nose has pineapple, some under ripe orange, nettles, some stale white wine, a little buttery barrel. Flavor has a flinty champagne like quality on the front, tart green grape, some butter, pineapple comes later, its oddly both raw and rotten at the same time, some raw papaya too, orange rind. Finishes oily, prickly with something that felt like heat that's maybe acid instead? Gone, but not too far gone.

Bottle. Cloudy light yellow-orange body, thin off-white head. Prominent pineapple aroma. Body floral, estery, and woody with pineapple notes all nicely interplayed in another winner from JP.

Bottle from Dusty’s Cellar. (Labelled 6% not 4.5%)

Imagine if Ron Jeffries brewed a saison labelled with a raven riding into battle on the back of a motherfuckin’ wolf.

Sick, right? Yeah, this beer is that good. It’s like my dream saison basically. It’s like so good that the Hill Farmsteads I’ve been drinking regularly courtesy of prufrockstar are just beer. (Ok, well maybe not that good, but this is not less good than those are.)

I concede the time and place are propitious. I just gave a talk then spent hours talking to people in the non-air conditioned muggy heat of an East Lansing summer. Back in the air conditional motel room with this bottle...so good.

Cloudy light-amber pour. White white head. Dusty, dusty nose with little of the sweet banana esters that mar too many American saisons. Instead, a gentle tartness. Saddle leather. Not that funky exactly, but not clean either. Just perfect. Tart, of course, total JP character. Pepper and dust, beautiful brett dryness. Terroir out the wazoo. I’m in love. 4.5 is probably too high, but accounting for time and place it’s righto n the mark.

For me marriage: pours hazy yellow gold with a white head. Aroma is funky, spicy, tad fruity. Taste is quite sour and rather spicy. Not really something you can drink a whole lot of. A bit sweet with some herbies.

Hazy golden coloured body with a dense, large five centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of grass, yeast, hay, coriander seed, canned corn, wheat and a bit of light spices - nice. Light-bodied; Grassy flavour at first gives way almost immediately to a bretty and funky yeast flavour that is typically from the brewery with a subdued grassy and herbal flavour, but the funk and lightly soured malt goes quite far. Aftertaste showing more dryness and herbs coupled with some light sweetness and a bit of lemons and lime flavours. Overall, a nice beer that is almost exactly what I’d expect out of this beer, but shows very elegantly with a nice effervescence and rich flavour profile and complexity. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from the Seaway Party Store in Grand Haven, Michigan on 09-September-2015 for US$13,99 sampled at home in Washington on 02-February-2017. My bottle shows almost a similar logo to the graphic, but states 6,0% abv.

75cl bottle. Small and persistent white head atop cloudy straw body, nice lacing. Aroma is moderately sweet, Brett, some grapefruit, light straw. Taste is moderately sweet, strong lemon, some Brett, light ginger. Light-medium body, some acidity. That lemon is too overpowering to enjoy this one.

Bottle at home. Hazy gold. Aroma of pineapple, citrus fruits, slight funk, some spice. Palate is light bodied, medium carbonation. Taste is some lemon lime tartness. Dry. Subtle funk. Touch of ginger. Pretty straight forward but quality. I enjoyed this beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
