Bottle, courtesy of GrandpaTurtle. A surprisingly bitter RIS with lots of liquorice and some coffee. Not really balanced though.

UPDATED: AUG 22, 2015 Pitch black color with lots of long lasting light brown foam head. The smell has chocolate, coffee and roasted coal. The taste is over carbonated and surprisingly bitter. Roasted licorice and coffee with coal particles. Not bad, but with the impression that it is somehow not finished. Little aggressive aftertaste.

from Erzbierschof - black beer under a huge beige foam; roasted aroma of black chocolate and cacao, notes of tobacco; full-bodied, some sweet maltiness and a light sourness, fairly bitter and with a long corny chocolatey finish

sample at mondial de la bière 2015, mtl. hazy very dark brown with a large crema cap, good retention and lacing. raisins, molasses - some burnt sugars, resin, chocolate malts, some roasted acidity, raspberry red fruitiness - hint of tartness, astringent alcohol. light carbonation, medium body - oily; very lightly tart and woodsy-spicy finish. unintentional contamination perhaps - cherry brettiness. infection aside, it still fails as an imperial stout but there’s a nice powdery chocolate and a strong red fruitiness character that i kind of enjoy.

Black color with beige head. Dry roasted malts. Coffee, dry, a hint of sourness. Delicate and subtle. Nice hop bitterness for such a sweet beer.
