COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The best known and most valued of all Poznan meads, Kasztelanski has a delicate honey and root flavor and aroma. It was awarded gold medals in international Apimondia Beekeeping Congresses in Bucharest 1968, Nagoya 1985, Beijing 1993, National Wine and Mead Contests and the 1996 edition of the Polagra Trade Fair in Poznan. Referred to as a "trójniak" (triple), Kasztelanski is 30 percent honey and 60 percent water with 12 to 14% vol. alcohol. It needs to be stored for at least one year.

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2022 Nawet jak na trójniak, zaskakująco wytrawny, kojarzący się już właściwie z winem... Miód mniej wyczuwalny, niż w dwójniaku, za to więcej owoców - jabłko, winogrona, gruszka. Bardzo ciekawie to wyszło.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2021 W aromacie winny, miodowy, suszone owoce. Barwa złota, klarowny, bez piany. W smaku półsłodki, drewno, czerwone wino, miód. Na finiszu lekko ściągający i niska goryczka, przyjemna. Fajny, mocno winny i nie taki słodki.

UPDATED: JUL 23, 2017 15.02.2014, 0,75l bottle sampled @ RBNG14: Clear, flat. Aroma is mild heather honey, caramel, hay. Taste is slightly sweet, honey, sour apples, hay, caramel. Nice slightly sour-ish / acidic mouthfeel. Nice enough.

Sample from bottle. Clear golden colour, no head. Aroma is dominated by honey and ripe apples, with notes of raisins, plums, cherries and light alcohol. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and very light tart, honey, apples, light cherries and raisins, dried fruits, light floral notes. Medium to full body, oily, sticky texture, warming, sweet finish, flat carbonation. Very solid.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2017 Opened 750 ml stoneware bottle, from a trade with Cunningham. ABV is 13%. Clear cognac colour, no carbonation. Intense and pleasant aroma of honey, oak and herbs. Fairly sweet flavour of honey, again with notes of oak and herbs. Warming throatfeel.
