Panda thanks to Cloin. Near clear dark brown amber beer, good tan head, but it fizzes away quickly. Light and smooth palate, mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation on the back end. Smooth light cakey dark chocolate malts. Touches of icing sugar and floral nuttyness. Estery bourbon barrel on the back end along with a small pinch of spice. Good.

UPDATED: FEB 22, 2024 Can at home, procured from an online peddler, 22/02/24. Lighter shade of black with a decent beige cap that thins to the edge. Nose is maple syrup, chocolate, spice, dark malts, mellow rye barrel, brown sugar dusting. Taste comprises roast malts, chocolate maltesers, rye barrel, toffee fudge, light smoke, charr, molasses, maple coated, light coffee bite. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. Fun impy stout that weighs in well below the stated 12.7%.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2023 Bottled 10.26.2020, drunk 12/26/2023. Clear, dark brown. Small, somewhat fizzy, light tan head shows low retention. Oh wow, actual whiskey in the nose! Chocolate, fruity yeast, bit of salt and char. Soft vanilla on the finish with no booze or other aggressive notes. Rich, soft, sweet, malty. Great balance of salty char, sweet malt, spicy rye. Wow the rye in this is insanely flavorful without being tannic or over-roasted/charred. And it's not boozey. Rich malt is just south of syrupy, but is full and comforting. Sweet, but with good balance from whiskey, coffee and barrel. Lingering vanilla, rye, chocolate and a pinch of dry, salty char. The sweetness still sticks with you, though. And this is with three years of age on it....

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2023 Can - dark brown pour with a thick and sticky lace - heavy on the maple and coffee, with a touch of bacon smokiness - whiskey notes late - a sharp acidity that seems most likely from the coffee leaves it a little abrasive on the tail end - meh.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2023 Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, lasting head. Smells of caramel malt and maple syrup, with hints of chocolate, licorice and rye bourbon also coming through. Taste fortunately does not follow the nose, being far less sweet, with a great balance of slightly roasted, caramel malt, maple syrup, chocolate and lighter coffee, licorice and peppery rye spice, as well as hints of vanilla and oak. Finishes with a medium sweetness, light spiciness and some maple syrup, chocolate, coffee and oak lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a rixh body and medium carbonation. I feared the worst after smelling this, but thankfully it's a lot less sweet and more nuanced on the tongue than it is in the nose. While I still think that the maple syrup is somewhat overdone here, making this a bit too sweet in combination with the caramel malt, chocolate fudge and vanilla, the coffee, spicy rye, licorice and oak notes balance it out nicely enough, with the rye barrels really coming through beautifully here. Can't say I'm getting a lot of bacon from this, seems kinda gimmicky, although perhaps just a hint of smoked, salted accents are coming through indeed. Overall, this makes for a very enjoyable Rye Breakfast Stout that may perhaps just feel a tad too sweet, but is well-balanced overall, with a great barrel presence and depth of character.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2023 It pours very dark brown with a brown head. It has very good head retention with a fluffy head. There are dark chocolate aromas with maple syrup. There is a smoked quality to it with some coffee. The spiciness of rye is evident as well. The flavors are more intense with alcohol. The coffee is a bit more forward with maple flavors. The smoke like elements are low with dark chocolate and rye. The rye becomes stronger in the aftertaste. It has a full body with quite a bitter finish. the smoke compliments the bitterness. Overall, a strong beer with noticeable alcohol which borders hot, but not quite. The flavors and complex and plentiful.
