UPDATED: MAY 19, 2020 Me gusto me falto un poco más de cuerpo y de intensidad en boca pero es agradable y no demasiado fuerte para tomártela cuando ya empieza a hacer calor.

nybol (4256) - DENMARK - FEB 12, 2019
UPDATED: FEB 12, 2019 En noget kompleks øl man roligt kan gå ombord i. Den har smage fra den sorte malt, IPA og ikke mindst det syrlige

Pours a very dark brown with full head. Aromas of green berries, pine and chocolate. Flavors of tart unripe blackberries, yielding to plum skins and chocolate, and finishing with oily roasted malts. Interesting. A good take on a sour dark.

L'arôme des fruits tropicaux, malt torréfié, et chocolat. En bouche c'est pareille, avec un finition sec et amer.

Kettle-soured interpretation of a Galaxy-hopped Cascadian dark ale, sounds like quite a challenge - I guess this one will be hit or miss with little in between... Bottle from Willems in Grobbendonk. Intricately papery-lacing, regular, creamy, pale beige head slowly showing gaps in the middle, over a black beer with hazy mahogany brown edges. Rather weird aroma of decaying acorn shells, fish sauce, passionfruit, sour grapes, unripe blue plums, balsamic vinegar, damp forest floor, sourdough, old sweat, wet old toast, anchovies on a pizza, elderberries, hot synthetic cloth, roasted salsify. Sour onset, bit puckering even with an unripe brambleberry-like effect, redcurrant, note of fresh fig juice as well as sweeter old raisin-like core, softish carb but lively enough to add some minerally accents and fit for any kind of modern IPA, thin beef broth- or even very vaguely porcini-like accent; straightforwardly souring, bit lemony-lactic acidic edges accompany a nut shell- and toasted bread-like malt middle with lingering berry-like aspects, evolving into a softly but effectively bittering finish mixing toasted bitterness with a strong amount of spicy and leafy hop bitterness that settles deep in the throat, seemingly accentuated by the sour aspect but at the same time continuously clashing with it as well, eventually resulting in a rather unpleasant wryness. Burned nut-like aspect lingers as well, but the Galaxy contribution remains limited to an understated passionfruit effect retronasally, clashing with the sourness. So does the toasted malt bitterness, alas. Interesting experiment, there aren't too many 'sour IPAs' around and I fear that this concept - whether blond, black or whatever colour - has potential to become the next hype. I can theoretically imagine a kettle-soured, lactic-acidic IPA to work somehow, but it will take a whole lot of expertise and feeling for refinement to get such a thing right. To Öl, in their bold - and sometimes very successful - spirit of experimenting to their hearts' content, do not seem to have sufficiently considered the difficulty of combining aromatic hoppiness with a sour mash and this kind of silly thing is the result of that. I can give it some extra points for originality and sheer guts, but at the same time it took me a long time to try and get used to this - and I never really did even after the full 33 cl, as the sour and bitter aspects of it kept clashing in both my mouth and my head till the last drop. Puzzling, I'd rather have a true, non-sour Galaxy-hopped BIPA even if I believe Galaxy is better suited for 'softer' and more exotic forms of IPA than the old, surly and obstinate Cascadian dark.

from la Cave à Bières; canned - dark beer under a solid pinkish-beige foam; aroma of licorice, black cherries and mocha; moderate carbonation; full-bodied, sweet, sticky palate and decently sour; creamy finish with notes of prunes, cherries and molasses; tasty and with lingering sourness - pretty nice

Experimental. Herbal y lupulada en nariz. En boca cafetosa y bastante ácida! Sorprendente! BOTELLA. BB 07/09/2018
