COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is our September 2005 Special Ale.
It is a strong version of our Brown Ale with an extra load of hops. Eight weeks of maturation rounds of the flavors and integrate the hoppiness with the chocolate and caramel notes from the malt profile. Dry hopping with whole flower Centennial hops directly in each cask provides some extra punch.
Ølfabrikken India Brown is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers. Only available on tap.

stobbe74 (3788) - DENMARK - NOV 19, 2010
Bottle. Pours a clear and dark copper beer with an offwhite/beige head. The aroma is malt, caramel, dust and some notes of cardboard. The flavor is malt, caramel, some hops and dust. The palate has some bitterness. Overall an average beer.

Vintage. Pours copper with a beige head. Aroma is cardboard, dust, roasted caramel and citrus hop. Flavour follows the nose. I think that this has been a great brown ale.

(Bottle, batch 950 BBE 1.3.08) Deep amber colour. Clear. Bing lightly tan head. Lots of hops in nose. Full-bodied and dry palate with quite a lot of carbonation. Slightly sour taste. Hint of chocolate. Hops, malts and surprisingly light bitterness. Bit of sweet home-brewed beer flavours. It seems this bottle has not aged well.

Bottle 50cl swing top @ home.
[Batch #246]. Unclear medium amber orange color with a small, fizzy to frothy, good lancing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, moderate hoppy, pine, orange. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Bottle. Pours a muddy dark amber/brown with a small off-white/beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty with strong notes of fruits and dessert wine. Flavour is hops for a short moment at first, but are then overcome by the sweet malts, which mixes with a slight sour touch. Notes of fruits and dessert wine here as well, although the dessert wine isn’t as outspoken as in the aroma. Finish is liquorice bitterness with a sourness to it and lingering notes of apple. Slight notes of hops appear in the background. The sourness seems a bit misplaced – it doesn’t fit in the overall picture. The beer would be a whole lot more well-balanced without it. Still a fairly decent brew though. 21-05-08.

From Vignoble, Aarhus Bottled Lots of hops but the malt profile lacks some balance to it

henrikb (1264) - Aarhus, DENMARK - MAR 9, 2008
Brown body with a huge beige head; Quite mellow well balanced hop fresh nose; Strangely composed body, a little to full/fat to the quite 1-dimensional bitterness; Long malty warm finish with sugar fill and hop bitterness. Not the best idea for a style India Brown Ale.

Beer5000 (10650) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - FEB 19, 2008
500 ml bottle. Slightly hazy reddish brown body with a diapering beige head. Aroma is sweet malty, caramel and citrus hoppy. Flavor is clear caramel malt, yeast and lots of hops. Very much like what I might expect from a crossover between brown ale and IPA. Nice.

Draught at Kobehavnske Oldage, May 2006. Dark brown colour. I wasn’t convinced that this concept would work too well but it did. Perhaps because the hoppy elements are clearly dominant. Distinctly floral and aromatic. There is some nutty malt but it is verymuch playing second fiddle to the hops. Pretty good.

Flaske. Som flasken selv beskriver indholdet. En meget velhumlet brown ale. Flot stort skum på en" brun ale". Smagen sidder i skabet med en ekstra tand bitterhed. I love it.
