UPDATED: JUN 25, 2023 Bottled. Coppery black coour with a lacing beigeish brown mediumsized head. Aroma is chocolate, some toast, caramel, liquorice and some mild alcohol. Flavour is a bunch of dark malts, chocolaty, coffeeish with some dried fruits as well. Mild smoked wet wooden elements together with chocolate and alcohol in the finish.

Helt sort og meget smag af lakrids, meget brændt, så hvis man kan lide ar have skrå-eftersmag, synes jeg dette må være øllen.

Aromas of toffee, heavy yeast with dough and meaty quality. Moderately bitter. Fairly dry throughout. Solid. 6/10

From 500ml bottle at the Pigs Ear Beer Festival, London on 6 December 2006. This review is for the original 10.0% version brewed in 2006 to celebrate the Porterhouse’s 10th anniversary. A subsequent batch, brewed on 2010 was 7.0%, brewed to a different recipe and sold in 330ml bottles. Very dark - almost black, with a thin beige head. Intense, deep malty aroma, with plenty of dark chocolate. Smooth on the palate with more roasty malt and rich chocolate. Also a good balancing bitterness. Full mouthfeel with an alcohol presence that is warming rather than burning. Very impressive.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2011 Bottle Pigs Ear BF. Black colour with tan head. Intense choc/coffee aroma, but a broad level of aromas, not tight. Beautiful condition and intense lovely choc/coffee. Stunning. Great beer. I like most of the Porterhouse beers and this is another good one.

this 10% ABV bottle conditioned imperial stout was already 2 years old when I opened it. I must say now that I like big stouts, and this was up there with the best of them - black as coal, dark biege head, coffee and cocoa in abundance on the nose, big, big big so far. What a lovely beer this was to drink as well, burnt caramel and rich luxuriant chocolate held beautifully in tension, wonderful to sip and feel the warmth of the alcohol.

Bottle shared by fonefan on 8/28/09: Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a well-lacing light tan head. Aroma of toasty sweet dark caramel and milk chocolate with a touch of doughy notes and licorice. Starts with a good rich malty fullness and some dark chocolate and coffee character along with a touch of black cherries before a warming lightly smoky finish. Pretty well-balanced and enjoyable.

Versa rosso scuro con riflessi quasi tendenti al nero una buona schiuma marrone e leggera. Al naso è liquirizia, alcool e luppolo. Gusto equilibrato tra amarezza e dolcezza. Da riprovare ancora perchè lo merita!

[1818-20081022] 650mL bottle. Sweet malt and green wood aroma with some slightly smoked raisins. Dark dark brown red-hued body with a quick creamy tan foam. Heavy dark plum malt flavour with some plastic bandaid notes, finishes raisin roast malt. Medium-full body. Tasty though a little sweet.

Bottle thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing at a recent tasting. Pours a nice deep dark brown not quite black with a moderate lasting head- some lace. Aroma is licorice and anise right from the start with tar leather, and dark chocolate. Some coffee comes in the flavor a bit too along with the previous notes, dry dusty dark chocolate- more leathery dryness in the end and a spicy phenolic anise character. Full bodied and nice throughout- good smooth sweet finish.
