COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised;
Originally labelled as Ginger Tom. Label was changed to read Old Tom With Ginger circa 2011.
Ginger Tom is a lively breed indeed, a subtle snap of ginger creates lovely purring warmth for those cold winter nights, or a refreshing summer beverage when served over ice.
Specially brewed using an infusion of Chinese bruised ginger root and botanical extracts, this warming speciality ale has a pronounced ginger and spiced herb palate complemented by a sweet roasted malt dryness and wonderful ginger after burn.
Ginger Tom is a richly flavoured dark oak coloured ale with distinctive aromas of peppery spice and sweet ginger.

UPDATED: APR 19, 2021 Review: 330ml bottle of Robinsons Old Tom Ginger: 6.0% vol. Coming in a very cool looking black bottle with a very nice logo of a ginger cat. Very easy to buy with that lovely presentation. From the pour I get a dark deep ruby red looking brew, with not much of a head appearing at all. Looks a bit shitty to be honest. Head goes flat very, very fast. Small to no head is the result…… The smell is light, very light on the nose. Of course I get the ginger, and some fruit and malts but its very faint which is quite surprising for a beer with ginger in it…….. So obviously the taste is ginger, no surprise there then. Now I actually hate ginger, but don’t ask me why I bought this in the beer shop. I think I was mesmerized by the cat picture on the bottle and just put it into the basket, ha. But the thing is this isn’t actually too bad at all. The ginger is very well balanced with the malts and the caramel, so its not overbearing at all, thank God for that! Kind of like a strong cola with ginger. It is very interesting drink and has a deep tasting English ale style to it. A vodka and coke with a touch of ginger. I like it. I even shock myself in saying that! The alcohol is very well hidden. Perfect for the slow drinker, nice to sip and relax with. Ginger, malts and sweet cola, moderately bitter and a little fruity too (pears), all very well balanced. Yeah, coke with ginger, but it works, very easy to drink and recommended. I liked it, but the only negative here is that the bottles were far too small as I wanted more. I am not sure that the fact I liked this beer as someone who hates ginger, is good or bad. Good that it appeals to me, but bad in that perhaps a real ginger fan might not think there was enough ginger in it, oh I don’t know, ha!…

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2020 330ml bottle. Dark brown, small beige head, some retention. Aroma of ginger, cola, malts; interesting. Taste is big on the ginger, malts, sweet cola, herbal hops, spice from the ginger and a moderate bitterness combine in a dry finish. Moderate body, carbonation a little too spritzy. Decent interesting beer if a little unbalanced.

UPDATED: NOV 28, 2020 Dark brown with a frothy head, almost like an Irish coffee. Strong smell of ginger. Taste of an alcoholic ginger beer, but not as sweet, with a hint of peat. Very drinkable.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2020 330ml bottle from Waitrose, Rickmansworth and drunk on 22/03/2009. Not as bad as I feared. The ginger wasn’t too overpowering and it did taste a bit more like proper stem ginger, but sadly the base beer just isn’t that good, or at least when it’s been pasteurised.

Martinsh (2837) - Crewe, Cheshire, ENGLAND - MAY 16, 2020
UPDATED: MAY 16, 2020 Bottle from Home Bargains As you would expect, a strong ginger nose. Pours rich ruby red with a transient off-white head. Some sweet malts initially on the tongue before the ginger drowns out everything else. Tons more ginger in the finish. Bit of a strange one – any resemblance to Old Tom appears to be purely coincidental.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2019 Butelka. Ciemny,mahoniowy kolor z wyraźnym rubinowym refleksem. Piana obfita,beżowa o drobnych pecherzach opada powoli. W aromacie wyraźne nuty imbiru,karmel i susz owocowy. W smaku słodko,dużo karmelu, słodu, suszonych owoców,rodzynek,rozgazowanej coli i nagle wszystko znika w morzu imbiru. Posmak imbiru mimo że dodaje pikanterii przytłacza jednak i zabija inne smaki. Wysycenie małe o ostrym korzennym finiszu.
