Victory Brewing Company Reviews

Victory Hop Ranch Imperial India Pale Ale 3.2
Bottle from the COOP.. pours clear dark golden with a nice white head with good lacing... Weird fruitiness that has some yeasty notes that don’t really jive with the hops.. Hard to explain.. Standard tangerine/orange zest with something that I normally associate with lemon essence coming from yeast... Also a herbal note that seems out of place... This one is very odd... Not bad, just odd.

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3
Pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma is citrus, floral and hints of cereal. Taste is very mild bitters with creeping sweetness. Medium bodied, smooth with stickiness on the finish. A little much with the sweetness.

Victory Moonglow Weizenbock 3.6
Bottle. Pretty clear brown with an off white head. Wheaty and toasty aroma with prunes, dried banana, raisins, cloves. 7+ Rich but not that sweet, reasonably high high carbonation keeps it cheerful when it could be heavy. Some orange and lemon along with pepper and cloves brightens things too. Quite spicy with dried fruit and toasty flavours underneath. Some bitterness as well as spices at the end. Maybe a bit clinical, but a pretty solid drop.

EithCubes
Victory Anniversary 20 Experimental IPA 3.9
Bottle ENJOY BY: 04 JUN 2016. Nose heavy rind with a lot of scratchy paper, some subdued fruit with caramel and resin, touch melon. Pours ultra-clear bright yellow-golden with a rocky bright white head. Taste strongly bitter and bone dry, resin strong but not scratchy, lightly bready finish but that’s a bit buried under minerals. Picks up a little sweetness with volume. Golden sunshine from the pils malt, a little pine/wood seeping through, it’s a hard bitterness but a clean one. Full body sharply crisp and reminiscent of mineral water, buries the melon and fruit somewhat. Still a really nice offering, essentially the ideal American Pilsner with just a little more ale body/bloat. Yum! [2016.02.11: 3.9]

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3.2
Bottle. Golden with small head. The agave adds a sweetness that seems to distract from the hop flavors. I like the idea, but it didn’t work for me flavorwise. Maybe more hops would help? Just seems like a weak ipa.

Victory HopDevil 4.1
@IPA Bar Berlin; bold, at the same time subtle nose of ripe orange, juicy orange peel, pine and herbal hints, hints of mint, dark caramel. Decent malt body with subtle caramel edges that binds and balances the complex, well designed hop profile.

Biroholik
Victory Storm King Imperial Stout 4.1
Piwo wypite z okazji 300 polubień Bloga Biroholik.
Chmiel: Pacific Northwest
Kolor: Czarny.
W aromacie nuty kawowo-czekoladowe. Mało słodkich akcentów. Gdzie niegdzie subtelne akordy lukrecji i karmelu. W tle zaznacza się delikatna wędzonka.
Smak: Bardzo aksamitny, harmonijny. Dużo chmielowych nut, ciemne słody i kawa na finiszu. Pomiędzy tym wszystkim lewitują sosnowe-żywiczne smaczki. Goryczka wysoka, minimalnie drażniąca przełyk. Alkohol wyważony, rozkosznie musuje na języku.
Wysycenie: Niskie w kierunku średniego.
Podsumowanie:

Victory Harvest Ale 3.6
Mild hoppy aroma with a little bit of green grass. Clear medium copper color with a white head. Drag racing business with a nice drying effect on the tongue. Overall the flavor is fairly mild, but quite tasty with a nice light malt backbone to support it. The flavor builds as you go and becomes a bit more intense. Very tasty and refreshing, but not quite as hoppy as I was expecting.

At Matt’s place. Slightly sour aroma with some herbals. Very hoppy and sweet taste. Closer to DIPA, not to IPA.

Victory Hoppy Quad 3.2
Tasting at Matt’s; corked
Hazy golden color, small compact head. It has a light vegetable note, nothing like a Quad, and not much hop quality either. Smooth and with a good body, sweet, no depth or complexity, just a tiny bit of spicy yeast (this would be more appropriate in a Triple than in a Quad), bitter but without purpose, and some fruity esters in the finish.
An ok beer.

Victory Hoppy Quad 3.4
750mL bottle, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out citrus and piney hops, candied sugar, and a slight hint of Belgian yeast. Flavour is boozy as fuck, with lots of candied sugar, Belgian yeast, citrus hops, and some perfumey notes. Although it’s rather abrasive, everything works pretty well together. Good stuff.

Victory Harvest Ale 4.1
Pleasant flowered hop aroma. Darker pale copper color. Slight haze but clear. Only partial lacing. Nice hop bite, not overpowering. Bitterness over the entire palate. Hop lingers for some time after initial taste, surprisingly reamerging at the rear of the mouth. A nice Victory indeed.

Victory Anniversary 20 Experimental IPA 3.7
bottle. Golden with one finger head. Very tropical forward IPA. Pilsner-ish malt body with cracker and grain is a unique contrast. Moderate bitterness. Solid tropical notes. I dig that this isn’t a 10%+ anniversary beer.

Victory 2015 Hop Ticket #2 Dry Hopped Saison 3.4
Draft to taster at Dutch’s from notes. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have grainy bready malts, melon, light cherry, herbal notes, grass, searching for the mango but didn’t get any, fairly mild, ok.

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3.2
Bottle. Nose agave and grapefruit rind (the fresh mix of these two is dynamite), classic C-hops with more Citra. Pouts clear golden with a short bright white head. Taste weird to say the least, strong bitterness but the puckering kind real grapefruit pulp leaves behind; light agave clashing against pine, lighter paper; grapefruit and orange hop oils, sweet to start but everything drying out over time. Crisp, clean, full body, fresh and juicy with a hint of grain/bread in the back. Like what they’re going for here, but admit some kiddie-Radler elements are a turnoff. [2016.02.09: 3.2]

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3.7
Pours a clear golden orange from the bottle with fluffy white head that dissipates to leave light lace. Aroma of pithy grapefruit and citrus hops over a hint of sweet malt. Taste follows, more grapefruit bitterness than sweet fruitiness, solid IPA. Moderate bitterness, clean and easy, soft carbonation, would be a great summer beer.

Bouteille bue en juillet 2014. Arômes floral et malté. Le houblon goûte pas vraiment. Le côté floral et épicé prend beaucoup de place. Amère. Ressemble à une pale ale anglaise,

Awesome pour. Beautifully crystal clean straw blonde with two fingers of white head. Nose shows some citrus and pine with bready malt, onion/garlic, and a grassy note. Very light and sessionable. Dry and a little oily/grassy bitterness. Bready/malty back note. Nice.

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 4
The agave sweetness tones down the citrus aromas and comes together with the dry grassiness of the malt. As the citrus fades the malt and moderate bitterness finish cleanly with no oiliness to speak of. I really like how Victory incorporates pilsner malt in their IPA’s, eliminating the butterscotch stuck in the back of my throat sensation.

Bottle - light yellow with a skunky rubbery aroma. A dry straw taste. No grapefruit in this one. Tastes like a cheap foreign lager. One is enough.

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3.5
12 ounce bottle into lager glass, stamped best before 4 June 2016. Pours golden-amber, crystal clear decent head. Aroma: fruity and herbal with hints of pears, grapefruit, tangerines, pineapples, mangoes, dried grass and apple juice. Taste: herbal and juicy grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon hop notes. Good balance; suitably robust and bitter for style. Medium carbonation and body. A touch slick. Overall: Alcohol is well hidden. Well crafted, fairly mainstream yet distinct Amer. IPA.

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3.4
Poured a clear transparent gold. Aroma had subtle citrus and floral hops. I thought I could also smell some light, sweet malt. Flavor was fruity, some citrus and possibly some grape. It wasn’t as hoppy as I would have liked. Other than that, it was rather crisp, clean, and easy drinking which can be nice I guess.

2/8/16. 12oz bottle from Five Points. Crystal clear dark golden pour under a two-finger off-white head that sticks around and laces fairly well. Nice aroma, dank, citrus, grass, melons. Good flavor, mildly bitter, finishes dry with lots of grass and cantaloupe. Really tastes like cantaloupe, weirdly enough. Light sweet maltiness in the middle rounds it out. Not bad!

Bottle with Superbowl. Decent and light. Somewhat odd sweetness to it from the agave but the grapefruit is a nice bittering addition. Crisp and dry in the finish. Pretty drinkable.

Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA 3.1
12 oz. bottle, pours a clear pale golden / copper with a small white head. Aroma of grapefruit, citrus hops and fermented out sugars. Flavour is pretty reasonably balanced, with notes of grapefruit and agave in good balance. Citrusy bitterness on the finish. The agave actually works pretty well in juxtaposition to the grapefruit. Better than I expected based on the ratebeer average. Solid.

Victory Vital IPA 3.2
Can from Boise Co-op. Pale golden pour, tons of fine carbonation, keeping fluffy head alive. Malt/grain prominent on nose, also in flavor. I’m tasting a great pils, a so-so session IPA, and a pretty weak East Coast IPA. Looks great, tastes good, but not an IPA.

Very very pretty pour. Clean straw blonde pour with two fingers of tight white head. Nose is very interesting, lots of bright citrus and grapefruit with round fruity notes and a round sweetness. Crisp and zesty with lots of citrus rind and some piney notes. Grapefruit rind and a spicy bitterness on the finish. Light bodied and dry. Enjoyed this one.

650ml bottle from Cork Keg & Spirits in Rockford. Golden tan pour with little head. Aroma has light sweet fruits, somewhat pilsner-ish. Everything light. Taste is of sweet fruits, tangy, light. Finishes light, bittersweet. Shrug? Interesting blend although not great. Too subtle. 13.3

Victory Java Cask 3.6
750ml bottle from Spirits Brick. Poured a medium density to slightly fuller with a smaller tight foamy beige head. Aroma has some sweetness from the bourbon anda touch of dark fruit juice, touch of old cold black coffee thst sat around for a day or two, vanilla and burnt toast. Medium body, slick mouthfeel, light carbonation and warming heat throughout. Flavor is better than aroma, bourbon, wood, vanilla, dark toast, dry dark chocolate and some dark fruit skins. Coffee is too light for me.

Victory Moonglow Weizenbock 4
Pours attractive orange amber with fizzy beige head that lingers for a bit. When they say ’harvest fruit,’ they mean the banana harvest, because that’s the premier note of the aroma along with cloves, apples, raisins and alcohol. Those are all there on the palate, along with honey, apricots and orange fizz. Alcoholic heat and a light body undercut the development, and the 8.7 percent ABV seems under-reported. But there are still a lot of flavors passing through, like a rum cake with sliced fruit. You might find more nuance in Belgium or Germany, but this is a happy beer.

Strong bourbon aroma with slight roasted coffee. Wish that was a bit more balanced. Pitch black pour with average size fluffy tan head that fades quickly. Flavor is more balanced then aroma. 12 oz bottle. App: Clear brownish amber with small fading white head. Ar: Pine, herb, alcohol, spice, biscuit. T: Pine, spice, alcohol, toast. P: Slightly foamy finish. Too much dark malt. Bottle had some age but there was a persistent alcohol and phenol note, not due to oxidation, that was very off-putting.

Victory Vital IPA 2.7
Can. Pours like a crappy lagger... fizzy head on a light gold body... looks like a sudsy Bud Lite. Aromas of slightly skunky hops with a bit of a sticky honey presence. I’m a little unsure at this point as to what is going on here. Flavor is cloying honey with a soapy hops presence that just doesn’t work, especially when IPA is on the can. I am pretty disappointed in this one.
