2.9 Byatt's Amber Assassin Cask conditioned at the Old Post Office, Warwick, Warks. Amber with white head. Full on caramel bomb from the off, heavy, sweet initially. Becomes drier with more bitterness through the beer saving it a little. End okay but the initial flavour did me. Saturday, April 6, 2024

2.4 Byatt's Phoenix Bullion Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a golden yellow with a small foamy almost white head and excellent lacing. Not much of an aroma – just hints of floral hops. In the mouth it is slightly sweet but with metallic undertones and alcoholic strength much in evidence. Hops vary between traditional and floral and bitterness comes through later, along with hints of werthers original sweets and golden syrup. Finish is dry and somewhat sticky. Somewhat rough to say the least - not for me this one. Friday, March 8, 2024
