Two Cocks 1643 Flintlock
[Cask at the Hampshire Octoberfest, Basingstoke] A hazy pale amber pour with a white head; rather acetyl aroma - a whiff of glue; but pleasantly grassy in the mouth, with some sweetcorn; and a dry flinty finish.

Bottle from Grumpy Goat, Reading. Aroma combines sweet yet tart berries, coffee and liquorice. Dark and glossy. Creamy beige head recedes. Medium-heavy bitter. Charcoal and liquorice. Tart berries. Underlying malty chocolate. Medium bodied. Slick. Average-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. More interesting and packing more of a punch than I expected.

Bottle. Mild, creamy. Bread-y finish - actually has a really nice and easy finish. Solid malty character. No hops to speak of really, but doesn't seem to be what it's aiming for. Hardly spectacular, but it's well done for what it is.
