4.4 Essers Best German Style Lager Not sure why the lower ratings.... Beautiful lager. Takes me back to the beer I sneaked from my dad's beer fridge 40 years ago. Wonderful mix of old time Schlitz and Blatz. Real flavor, balanced well. I really like this beer. Saturday, June 8, 2019

2.8 Essers Best German Style Lager Bottle. Pours dull gold with white head and lacing. Nose of malty bread, and some hay and subtle floral notes. 3.4 Essers Best German Style Lager On tap at the Hilltop in Cross Plains, WI. dispensed to a shaker displaying a clear, orangey/gold color, with rising effervescent bubbles, a decent layer of white froth, and spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was soft grain, light lager scent, with a touch of malt sweetness, and a hint of corn. Medium bodied, assisted by lively carbonation, the taste was similar, including some earthy bitterness, and a slightly dry finish. A decent lager that refreshed, and complemented the food well. 4 Essers Best German Style Lager Dark gold pour. Flat head, some lacing. Light aroma of malt. Some lighter flavor of malt, bread, and yeasty biscuits. The mouthfeel is full and heavy but the flavor is light. Not a whole lot of complexity here, yet it's very pleasant. The drinkability is through the freaking roof on this. A good all day quaff!. On tap @ Three Cellars. -Pete Beitz Sunday, December 10, 2017

2.9 Esser's Golden Blonde Ale 12oz bottle. Contract brewed at Sand Creek. Clearly no love put into it, a pretty lackluster offering. Bland grainy malt notes, hints of nuttiness. Brewhouse aroma, hints of butter. Drinkable, but not that impressive. Right next door to macro. Thursday, July 13, 2017

3 Essers Anniversary Ale Amber, Cleese, off white head. Caramel, mild roast, mild berry notes, and mild hop note. Lite bodied amber, dry entry, flavor like aroma, malt dominated, medium buttering finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Monday, July 7, 2014

2.4 Essers Best German Style Lager Bottle from the local convenience store. Pours a rich copper, no head to speak of, aroma is very sweet, bready, heavy floral notes, sweet orange. Taste is somewhat interesting- more floral, cinnamon, bread pudding, but ultimately has too much of a buttered popcorn backbone to it. Not sure if it’s a flaw or what they were going for. Thins out quickly. This would do in a pinch, but otherwise one and done for me... Saturday, July 5, 2014

2.8 Essers Anniversary Ale On tap at Old Fashioned, pours a clear dark amber with a bubbly white head, the aroma was of sweet malt and caramel and the flavor pretty much follows suite, some bread in the start with a sweet finish of caramel, bubbly mouthfeel, meh. Monday, April 14, 2014

2.5 Essers Anniversary Ale Bottled. Poured a lovely shade of clear amber with a short-lived off-white head. The aroma picked up lightly-toasted caramel and pale malts with crisp leafy accents.. not a whole lot going on, but it was aiight. The flavor found prickly carbonation and leafy bitterness on the tip of the tongue, with semi-sweet caramel and chalky bread support following.. sharp and tacky on the surprisingly long finish. Lighter-bodied and overly sharp on the palate.. not very enjoyable. Monday, March 17, 2014

3 Essers Anniversary Ale This pours a clear, dark amber color with a slight foamy head. The aroma has a sweet malty scent. The taste is sweet with a mild flavor of toasted malts and oak. It does finish with a bit of a hoppy after taste but overall it is rather plain and simple when it comes to amber ales. Friday, January 24, 2014

2.8 Essers Anniversary Ale 12oz bottle. Filtered orange-red. Steady off-white head. Medium bodied. A touch grainy, but otherwise a pretty decent, modest Amber. A touch of a soapy bite. Some decent malt tones, but pretty bland, forgettable. Gets less enjoyable the more the aroma comes out as it warms. Not so good, pretty old school stuff. Thursday, November 7, 2013

3.1 Essers Anniversary Ale Sampled at the Great Taste of the Midwest 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin. Pour a clear golden dark amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates to a thin white ring and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of both golden grain and light caramel malts, some grassy hops, and a touch of ale yeast. Taste is light to medium bodied, some extra carbonation with flavors of light caramel malts, some earthy Centennial-style hops and a touch of mild herbs. Finish is light, clean cut with a short-lived mild bitterness. Saturday, September 7, 2013

1.8 Essers Cross Plains Special 12 oz. bottle, consumed on 2-22-13. Soapy, tangy, chemical-y, floral aroma features lime, melon, apple cider, and vinegar scents. Weird, strong smell; I’ve never encountered a smell like it. Pours a clear gold with a small amount of short-lasting, beige head. Low in flavor (bland) but not actively offensive. A weak, champagne-like quality to the taste. Light body; watery. Fizzy and lively in the palate. 4/2/3/2/7=>1.8 Sunday, February 24, 2013

2 Essers Cross Plains Special Straw yellow with a quickly fading white head. Aroma of skunked grains, pale malt and noble hops. Taste of sweet malt, grains and noble hops. Thin, macroesque and kinda blah. This was my last new beer of 2012 and unbeknownst to me at the time, it was my 1000th Wisconsin beer. Saturday, February 9, 2013

3.9 Essers Best German Style Lager Esser’s is one of the lesser known and smaller Wisconsin beers. It pours a golden amber color with a good scent of malts and hops. Upon tasting there is a good full flavor taste that is long lasting and delicious. I was certainly surprised by it’s taste. A must try for any Wisconsin beer lover. Thursday, January 24, 2013

2.6 Essers Cross Plains Special Draft at OF. Filtered yellow-orange. Factory sewage aroma. Soda-like carbonation, thick non-head. Light to medium bodied, somewhat sugary, corny. Too "malt" centered with an extreme shortage of hop character. This is pretty sub par stuff. Watery, unenjoyable, sugary.and thick. Monday, November 28, 2011

2.5 Essers Best German Style Lager Golden color with a foamy white head. The aroma is a little grainy and sweet with a hint of yeast. 2.7 Essers Cross Plains Special 12 oz twist off bottle. It pours a honey gold with big, bulky bubbles and a soapy white head. The smell is light and clean. It is unoffensive, with noble hops and light biscuit. Th flavor is a bit of a letdown. It has a big buttery diacetyl flavor and it is under carbonated. Other than that there is a mild hop flavor, but it is a buttery, sweet, malty pils. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-15-2010 00:43:02 Monday, March 14, 2011

4.5 Essers Best German Style Lager Slowly drink several during a day and the last is as great as the first. Wish I could this beer in Texas. We typically bring back 15 cases after our summer trips to Wisconsin. There are many beers with more flavor but none that are as drinkable if you are having several. The other beer we bring back plenty of is Spotted Cow. Say, if the new govenor would relax the rules for exporting of Wisconsin beers , you guys could be back in the black pretty quick Wednesday, March 2, 2011

2.9 Essers Best German Style Lager Bottle. Clear golden body. Fizzy, white head, rapidly diminishing. Sweet aroma of toasted grain, corn syrup, biscuit, brown sugar. Hint of caramel. 3 Essers Best German Style Lager Poured into a pint glass the beer is an orange golden color with a tiny bit of head. No lacing to be seen. The smell is sweet grain With a malty tone. The flavor is rather muted. Fairly dry. Some malt some hop bite but nothing really pops. The beer seems rather light in body. Moderate carbonation. This is a pretty standard german lager. 2.8 Essers Best German Style Lager Mother in law bought this one for me. Roasted malt and grain aroma. Golden body with white head. Good carbination bubble action in pint glass along with a mix of barley and a little lemon zest. Not bad refreshing brew after work. Saturday, May 30, 2009

2 Essers Best German Style Lager From the bottle, pours a clear orange-gold with a decently thick foamy white head. Aromas of malts and buttered corn-on-the-cob. Tastes like a thicker version of (You-name-the-golden) Ale found in any local brewpub made to satisfy the non-beer-snob patrons. There’s a lot of corn, off-balanced by caramel malts, with a similar aftertaste that just keeps hanging around. It’s not terrible, but don’t let this be the last beer you rate tonight. 3 Essers Best German Style Lager Pours a clear pale amber with a full beige head. Effervescent, good head retention and lace. Aroma is faint, generically malty. Flavor is sweet light malt, honeyed, offset by just a bit of floral hops. More husky and grainy in the finish, slightly flawed here. Thin to medium bodied, mild carbonation, quite drinkable.
