3.4 Porter Rossendale Ale From the Cask in Stockport, the place under the railroad. From old notes. A copper-amber color, earthy flavor. Medium hops. Very nice, very drinkable, a bit like a biere de garde with the earthy, roasted amber flavor. Saturday, August 9, 2014

3.6 Porter Sunshine (Cask at Railway, Stockport, 29 July) Colour is golden amber with small head. Nose is fruity with lots of citrus (grapefruit, lemon, orange). Taste is fruity and spicy with grapfruit and lemon, initially sweet but turns drier in the long and seriously hoppy (grapefruit style) and bitter finish. Lovely hop character. 2.9 Porter Sunshine [Cask at GBBF 2005] A hazy orange beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of fruit and flowers. The flavor is also sweet malty, but with notes of lemon, and with a bitter hoppy end. Tuesday, January 3, 2006

1.1 Porter Sunshine Cask condition, GBBF 2005. Not hoppy. A strange taste of cork is all over this beer. Quite unpleasant. Saturday, September 3, 2005

3.5 Porter Sunshine This beer IS mainly about the hops, but I didn’t think it was a one-trick pony. There’s quite a fair smattering of pale malt nestling down in the depths of the flavour. It’s an unremarkable amber colour. The aroma has a faint suggestion of green apple to go with the rush of citric hop. The flavour has much more of an oily, resinous hop character with enough bitterness to produce a very assertive feel. Well-defined and well-balanced. The finish is lingering and dry - positively arid in fact. Slightly chalky mouthfeel. I wasn’t convinced by this beer on the first couple of mouthfuls, but it won me over by the end and I found myself even enjoying the very austere dryness. Sunday, May 22, 2005

3.4 Porter Dark Mild On cask at the Griffin, Haslingden (where its brewed). A garnet tinged mild - not the darkest. Chocolate is quite evident on the nose. That carries through onto the palate, where coffee and burnt malt make an appearance too. All quite subtle. The initial impression is slightly sweet but it dries out towards the finish. Overall, a well-tempered, roasty mild at the lighter bodied end of the spectrum. Definitely a true supping mild, not a pseudo-porter or a quasi-stout. Sunday, May 22, 2005

3.1 Porter Floral Dance On cask at the Griffin, Haslingden (where its brewed). The commercial description is succinct and to the point and is just about right. It could add that the colour is on the amber side of gold, that the fruit is apple (somewhat sharp apple at that) and that the mouthfeel is mellow tending towards soft. Even for a cask beer this was very flat, with no head (just when I was beginning to get used to those foamy Northern heads). I thought I detected something spicy, maybe ginger, in the flavour too. An easy-going, laid-back sort of beer. Sunday, May 22, 2005

3.5 Porter Rossendale Ale On cask at the Griffin, Haslingden (where its brewed). Alluring bright copper/bronze colour. A best bitter with a distinctly traditional feel. It is markedly malty, but there’s plenty of citric hop presence and a fair whack of bitterness too. This all contributes to a well balanced beer with a clean and composed mouthfeel. Its refreshing too. The aroma’s a bit subdued though. Not a world beater, but solid and assured. Sunday, May 22, 2005

3 Porter Bitter Cask @ The Railway, Stockport, UK 29 Jan 2005 Dark amber in colour. It is quite dry and missing somewhat in body and also a tiny bit to harsh from long time mashing I think. Monday, February 21, 2005

3.4 Porter Sunshine Golden/orange in colour. Aromas are hoppy and spicy with some sweetness. The flavour is intensely hoppy. To be honest this beer is all hops. Has a very dry finish for good measure. One for the hopheads. Tuesday, July 20, 2004
