3.5 Dombräu Weizenbock 03/01 Draught at the brewpub. They ran out of the weizen, but had this winter seasonal weizenbock. Poured reddish brown body with bigger ebony head. Aroma is very nice weizen yeasty, banana, peach and orange with some berry fruits. Flavor quite nice, too, sweetish and fruity. Medium bodied, goes down very smoothly, actually too much. If not ordered as weizenbock I would think it’s an ordinary weizen as did not notice any bock character. Alcohol not felt at all. Very nice and tasty otherwise. Monday, January 7, 2008

2.2 Dombräu Red Chili Beer 03/01 Draught at the brewpub. This had reddish body with big ocher head staying up there for quite long time. Aroma is of strong pepper chili with some notes of yeast and malts. Flavor is strong and hot, as the waitress warned me. Besides that chilly I couldn’t resolve anything else. Finishing throat-burning hot, I could not drink the glass to the end. Interesting thing...but let it be. Monday, January 7, 2008

3.7 Dombräu Styria Dunkl 03/01 Draught at the brewpub. Clear brown body with medium brownish head. Very pleasant, sourish aroma, some roasted caramel with a bit of dark fruits. Sweetish flavor, fruity and a bit of chocolate also, as such very pleasant. Also, quite full bodied with not too much carbonation. Finish is great, too, sweet sugary caramel with some fruits. Delicious, I think the best Dunkel I’ve tried, I regret that didn’t take a bottle for home, which is probably even better. Monday, January 7, 2008

3.3 Dombräu Helles Naturtrüb 03/01 Draught at the brewpub. Poured murky golden body with medium white head. Sourish unpasteurized aroma, with nice fruitiness (citrus, orange, honey), very pleasant. Flavor is sweetish, quite tasty and nice although thin bodied. Long, nice fruity finish. Quite heavenly after those boring pale lagers and beer like things those days! Monday, January 7, 2008

3.2 Dombräu Red Chili Beer Clearish dark orange. Large slowly fading beige head with small bubbles clinging on the grass sides. A convincing chili aroma, sharp, fresh, multi-coloured and with small caramel malt hints underneath. Develops a certain earthiness in the way and this allows the pepper, not too sharp, not to take the whole attention. Rather diplomatic. In fact, the bite only appears for the first few sips and after that, I could easily drink 2 or 3 glasses. Light body, convincing medium carbonation. An easy-going example that does not forget to be beery, but obviously does not have the most malt character. Saturday, August 11, 2007

3 Dombräu Weizen Hefetrüb Cloudy deep gold. Exotic meringue-like cover. They can’t be blamed for their looks those Dombraus. Well done fresh yeast emanations propose clove, nutmeg, dirty leaves.. All culminating into an interesting sweetness at low levels. It’s all about the yeast this one, though the wheat offers a nice crisp support. Ultimately, not that refreshing though, slightly juicy, but leaving an unripe banana feel with a certain astringency. Saturday, August 11, 2007

3.2 Dombräu Styria Dunkl Thick foamy beige head tops the opaque dark brown body. Again a really soft flavoured, perhaps too much so austrian dunkel. Appealing juicy grape and berry tones mount over the earthy and leafy pretense, but it’s all down behind the walls. Nevertheless, a dry, softly carbonated and foamy, pleasant drink. 3.6 Dombräu Helles Naturtrüb Extremely foamy, soft cloudy pale gold. Rounded malt flavours, fully cerealic, fresh and not too sweet. Sandy hop nuances capture the finish while floral notes and limited bitterness are unagressive and softly caressing. Terrific mouthfeel, rich, foamy, refreshing. Excellent example! 3 Dombräu Helles Naturtrüb 0.5l, 5.2%, bottle conditioned (huge amount of yeast in the bottom of the bottle), 8 days after it "expired". Interesting. Poured a hazy light apricot colour, big thick white head that went at a medium pace. The nose is distinctly yeasty (not terribly pleasant) with faint notes of hops. A nice hoppiness, a pleasant maltiness (honey-like maybe) and a stale, unimpressive yeastiness that kinda ruins all that. Some lemoniness and a fine mouthfeel. Tastes light, feels heavy on the stomach. Odd, I know. Didn’t impress me much. This isn’t fresh (and this style seems to benefit from that), and I’ll definitely try it draught next time. It shows promise, but I didn’t like it nearly as much as the bottled Dunkel (and that was almost a month past its expiry date). Monday, January 8, 2007

3.7 Dombräu Weizenbock Draught at the brewpub and shared with Doggythedog. Hazy orange coloured, medium sized white head. The nose was mixture of vanillin sugar and jam. Aroma is wheaty, fruity and slight sweet. Alcohol is not so pronaunced for 6.5%ABV. Nice and easy drinkable weizenbock. Thursday, December 21, 2006

3.6 Dombräu Styria Dunkl Bottle (5.2%),, bought at the brewpub, which seems to have expired 20 days ago. Wonderful. Just wonderful. Looked impressive. An opaque very dark brown/almost black body, with a big-huge fluffy tan head. that collapsed leaving plentiful lacing. Interesting nose... raisins, coffee, dark chocolate. Coffee and chicory dominate the taste, which is soft and pleaant, some roastiness in the aftertaste. Faint, faint malt. The body, despite being dominated by some persistent and very pronounced flavors, is relatively light in truth. The bottle calls it a Schwarzbier (which, after tasting it, I’m quite willing to believe, as it’s more dry than sweet, and the profile is a bit different from an ordinary Dunkel), and says it contains rye (hmmm). Nice and interesting. Bottle conditioning must’ve done wonders for this one. Wednesday, December 20, 2006

2.4 Dombräu Red Chili Beer My beer no.2 of the Croatian RB team’s beerhunt in Graz. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while now (but kinda hoped that I wouldn’t), and I finally tried it today. Oh joy. Poured a nice opaque darker red-brown colour with a medium to big sized beige head that went away slowly. The nose was strong and assertive... yoghurty.... kinda like curry sauce, with hints of yeast and chili. Taste... well... full certainly, but kinda dull, chili owns it. Hints of black pepper. Ends with a sharp graininess. Oh, right, and it burns.... a lot. Argh. Should’ve ordered a glass of water with it. Not all that impressed, but I can respect it. Kinda. It just isn’t my cup of tea. 3.7 Dombräu Weizenbock The first beer from the big beerhunt I did with ozujsko in Graz. Their website showed (and still shows) Helles Extraleicht as the special, and we were pleasantly surprised to see that Weizenbock was on instead. Served in a big weizen glass. Poured a hazy, almost opaque dark orange colour. Medium sized, thick, almost "firm" chalky white head. Nice. The nose was interesting, strawberry jam, some malt and a lingering presence of alcohol. The taste was quite alcoholic for the stated 6.5%/16°... fruity in a cooked plum and peach way, but ended up grainy with some white grape like hopiness showing up. Wasn’t all that wheaty. A bit lactic, some hints maybe showing up from time to time, more so when it warmed, and I think it could’ve benefited from more prounounced weissbier esters. Still, it’s tasty and warming and definitely a pleasant surprise. Tuesday, December 19, 2006

3.3 Dombräu Red Chili Beer Wahoo...got some significant chili bite plus rich malts...lingering lip ting. Different than SW United States chili beers in that the malt is big and bready. Wish the food had as much spice!! Thursday, June 8, 2006

4 Dombräu Red Chili Beer Draught at the brewpub. -maybe this is some kind of a new recipe but this certainly isn’t Dark Chili beer (according to officially web site this is RED Chili beer), this is my first chili beer so I don’t have anything to compare it with, but one thing is for sure- I didn’t like it!!! Clear pale red coloured, medium head, dusty malty nose, not so pleasant strong pepper and chili aroma , harsh chilli and curry mouthfeel. 5-3-5-3-12. Lately I become chilli fan, so more I drank it more I prefered it. Wednesday, April 12, 2006

2.7 Dombräu Weizen Hefetrüb Typical of the German style, this is a full, cloudy, yellowy brew with the usual bubblegum and banana flavours and a fairly bitter aftertaste with full-on bubblegum. Not my choice of beer but well brewed. (Draught at Dombräu, Graz) Sunday, May 2, 2004
