3.4 Horseheads IPA 650ml bottle from Premier Gourmet, shared with PracticePlastic. No bottle date. Cooper amber pour with an off-white head leaving streaky lace. Some floaties. Aroma has pine and caramel and oranges. Taste is of sweet caramel, chewy resin, citrus and something tangy vegetal. Medium bodied. A touch of an alcohol presence. The blend is ok, but the nose is better. Finishes to the caramel sweet side of bittersweet. Started decent but didn’t stay that way. 13.1 Sunday, August 6, 2017

3.9 Horseheads Double IPA 22 oz bottle from Wegmans, Ithaca, 6/22/17. It pours a darker, burnt orange type color with a tan head and some drippy/streaky lace. Pine / resin, a little earth, caramel notes, mild fruit. Flavor leans bitter. Clean, drinkable. ABV is very well hidden. Definitely wouldn’t have guessed this was 9%. Kind of a throw back, in a good way. I really quite enjoyed it. Thursday, June 22, 2017

2 Horseheads Chemung Canal Towpath Ale Big entrance. Lotsa sudsy foam, bit of co2. Grainy, worty aroma. Hazy, chunkulative amber color. Cream Ale huh, hmmmmmmmm?? Body is middlin, soft but prickly carbo, lil oily, touch tangy. Fairly sweet malts, not much more, caramel and some canal splooge that sorta distracts from the overall idea that this might be a beer. Historically speaking this is wonderful stuff but as quaffability goes, hunuh. Thanks Stevely! Wednesday, December 14, 2016

3.9 Horseheads 12-21-12 Doom's Day Ale Bomber via beer world: Been a lurker in the fridge for a few weeks.. The wife was working from home and making demands (suggestions says she) about major home improvement projects before the current bathroom remodel is even 80% complete. ARRRRGH! To the refugium of the basement with a tasty beverage says I. Pours black as a moonless prairie nigh. and the price was right at 7.99 a bomber. Quarter inch beige head. Bitter black malt begins the act strongly but is drastically upstaged by the dive of Mexican coffee bolstered with cocoa. Kinda like a sexy coffee. Slick overall body. A fine extended multiple project basement. bomber Wednesday, October 5, 2016

3.6 Horseheads Double IPA Growler from AJs. This is an American citrus-pine DIPA with a copper-colored body that reflects the solid malt backbone. Not sure of the hops, but they are "traditional" US rather than New Zealand or whatever. Not an imbalanced, overload of hops, but they are definitely there. Not for the hop-phobic. 3.4 Horseheads Hot-Jala-Heim Restrained aroma in a golden amber pour. Flavour normal (and tasty) to start. But then the chilli/pepper takes over and the body and finish have a ’heat’ to them. I’m not usually a fan of the style but this one was relatively restrained and not too bad in the end. Monday, April 11, 2016

3.4 Horseheads Pumpkin Ale Bomber poured into a pint glass. 3.5 A: Nearly clear light orange color. One and a half fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is about average and a short ring of lacing is left. 4.0 S: Smells great! The big appeal is the pumpkin itself. Too many pumpkin beers rely too heavily on the spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon, and maybe a touch of allspice. A touch of toastiness with a caramel backbone. Has just enough sweetness to make me happy. 3.75 T: Like the nose, the pumpkin is the star here. Same mix of spices as above. Malts offer light caramel and toastiness. The only issue I have is that it’s a bit too dry. Still, it’s very good. 3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Could use some more body and creaminess. 3.75 D: It’s rare to find a good pumpkin beer, so I’m quite happy. ★ 822 characters DavoleBomb, Nov 16, 2015 Tuesday, February 23, 2016

3 Horseheads Hot-Jala-Heim Bomber poured into a pint glass. 3.25 A: Clear dark yellow color. Two fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is about average and no lacing is left. 3.5 S: Balanced mix between peppery heat and vegetal component. Grassy and spicy hops. Otherwise neutral malts. 3.5 T: Taste offers balance as well. Both the base beer and the peppers come through well. The peppers are more powerful as a flavor rather than heat. Malts offer hay and a light biscuit flavor. Just a touch of heat on the finish. 3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy and smooth. 3.5 D: Decent beer. I wish the peppers had a little more control over the beer, but it still turned out pretty good. ★ 717 characters DavoleBomb, Nov 09, 2015 Tuesday, February 23, 2016

2.7 Horseheads 12-21-12 Doom's Day Ale Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, licorice, roasted malt, oak, vanilla, rubbing alcohol and quite a bit of burnt toast scents. Medium to Light-bodied; Strong roasty flavours with a lot of burnt elements present, all giving way to a coffee and mostly anisey flavour that doesn’t show too well at the tail end. Aftertaste is one-dimensional with some malt, alcohol and dry oak and not much else - just a burning flavour from the burnt nuts/malt and from the pungent alcohol that shows a lot for being ’only’ 8,2%. Overall, not worth drinking, but that should be pretty evident. This didn’t do much being aged for ~1.5 years, this wasn’t worth keeping around much at all...that said, I still enjoyed sampling a local beer from Upstate New York. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 14-June-2014 for US$8,29 sampled at home in Washington just two hours before leaving to go back up to New Paltz for Thanksgiving, on 24-November-2015. 2.8 Horseheads Hot-Jala-Heim Appearance: pours with a small beige head, beer is a light bronze head, clear Aroma: oddly enough the first thing I smell is sweetness, chillies is there too, Taste: maple syrup is subtle but very noticeable, a subtle spice shows itself as well Palate: average carbonation, heavy mouthfeel, sweet and spicy aftertaste Overall: the sweetest chili beer I've had, the spice is more behind the sweetness but noticeable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone Monday, October 5, 2015

3.7 Horseheads Double IPA Took a chance on an undated IPA because A) I’ve never seen it before, B) it’s brewed 90 miles from me, C) It looked new and didn’t have any dust on it and D) It has only one rating from a tap and zero rates from a bottle yet. So I’m guessing it’s fresh. Pours copper with a white head. Tropical fruit juice aromas. Taste is semi sweet and lightly bitter. I’m guessing multiple late hop additions and possibly dry hopping. Pretty expressive. A touch of Tylenol. This is solid. Friday, September 25, 2015
