The Best Beers In The World, II
Features November 21, 2002
Written by Staff99

, UNITED STATES -

RateBeer.com is pleased to announce the results of its second semi-annual world beer competition RateBeer Best, November 2002. RateBeer Best is the largest beer competition in the world, bar none.

Over 14,800 different beers were tasted
120 different countries had at least one entry that was tasted
The competition included over 2,900 brewers from around the world
Over 125,000 ratings were tabulated to determine the results.

The judging was done by thousands of amateur beer enthusiasts from 67 countries around the world with America's beers being most rated. Several of the world's most avid amateur beer enthusiasts participated in the contest including

Per Samuelsson (Sweden), taster of 4000+ world beers
Josh Oakes (Canada), 3400+ beers from 109 countries
Philippe Corbat, (Switzerland) over 2800 beers from 86 countries
Joe Marjancik (United States), over 5000 beers lifetime
Because of their amateur status there are no minced words in the reviews -- beers were rated frankly and freely. The competition was held at limited expense so no support was taken from large international brewing companies. Quality mathematical/statistical and intensive manual efforts were taken to ensure against the influence of "trolls" -- site vandals who attempt to influence ratings with very positive or negative ratings. A judged "taste" most often meant an entire beer was consumed over a range of temperatures and with a fresh palate. Most every sample was purchased at a retail outlet further insuring the validity of the samples. We've worked hard to ensure that RateBeer Best is not only the largest beer competition in existence but also that it has the greatest level of integrity.

We've all done this for love of beer and we've chosen the best beers available for recognition. We hope you enjoy them and the results.
