COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Boulevard’s Love Child Series of "wild" ales are barrel-aged with such boisterous cultures as Lactobaccillus and Brettanomyces. These wayward offspring can prove so complex that we employ gauges on the label to convey the intensity of three key personality traits, Funk, Sour, and Fruit, presenting a picture of the ale at the time it was released. It will change as it ages, but don’t we all? Oak barrels were used to age the majority of beer used for Love Child No. 3—with beer aged from 16 months to nearly six years. Another portion of the beer spent 11 months in stainless tanks, souring on Lactobacillus. While very tart, the sourness is short-lived and the beer finishes dry with a trace of oak. Brigadier (4930) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 5, 2020
UPDATED: FEB 5, 2020 750 ml bottle Well past its prime, this release shows what happens when you sit on a bottle too long. I can only imagine what it must have been like in its prime to still be this solid. If it weren't for the packed shelves I would love to try a few more Love Child releases. AROMA / APPEARANCE A rich ivory head dances upwards as the caramel body chews at the foundation. A strong sour intensity has taken root as the brett is center stage. Behind it the musty profile indicates other aspects have mellowed with time. FLAVOR / PALATE Acidic astringent chocolate tickles the tongue. Clearly past its prime, this Flemish sour hits the palate with a harsh bite. Even the finish, tart Tootsie Roll, shows signs of having been more polished in the past. It will be nice to get more of these out of the cellar to make room for fresher offerings.

Bottle from 2013. Dark red, falling into brown color. Medium, not very long lasting beige head. A lot of funky aromas, some sour fruits, cherries, a bit of vanilla. Taste medium to very sour. A lot of fruity character-cheries, many diffrent berries, unripe gooseberries. Very dry and tart on the tongue. Well, well hidden alcohol. Medium to low carbonation. Very drinkable. Another beer from Boulvard which agaes amazingly well - could easly spent another 5 years in the cellar. Great funky Sour.

750 ml bottle opened a bit more than one year after “best before date”. Have sampled this a few times previously within the BFD, but IMO the storage have just made this beer even more fantastic. Slightly unclear reddish amber body with a stable, moderate sized, dense off-white head. Aroma is wonderful smooth and complex, acidic berries, fruit, barnyard, malt, wood, light caramel and some dry fruit. Flavor is like aroma, both smooth and complex with a wonderful balance between sweet, sour, fruit, wood and funk. Nice tart fruit, sweet malt, caramel, balanced bitterness and mild funk. Fine balanced body and long lasting aftertaste with the same wonderful flavor. One of the best beers I have tasted regardless style.
