UPDATED: FEB 5, 2024 Pours a semi-transparent amber, with a rather big frothy white head; recedes relatively quick though and leaves little lacing. Low to medium intensity in the aroma: caramel malts, hints of honey, timid smoked notes (wood, ashes), quite vivid (at least in the overall balance) floral hops. Taste notes follow the aroma closely. Smokiness is quite low per style while there's more bitterness than usual, especially in the dry finish/aftertaste. Lacks the 'full' feeling that malts and smoked notes usually give to rauchbiers. Light to medium bodied, pretty low carbonation (probably a bit lower than usual); drinks easily, feels slightly oily. Ok, but doesn't work for me.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2023 Saw this a hundred times in Bamberg, never tried it. Now I got this from hiergibtsbier - mahagoni color, white head. aromas of smoke, but for the style rather light. medium sweet. quite enjoyable. reminds a bit of the Spezial. okay!

UPDATED: APR 8, 2023 Im Glas präsentiert sich das Posthörnla schön rubinrot und bildet eine überaus dichte und stabile Krone. Es duftet eher zurückhaltend rauchig, eine feinsüße Malzigkeit mit etwas Honiganteil ist problemlos erkennbar. Es startet malzig-süß und offenbart eine überaus weiche Textur. Die Rezenz ist auffallend niedrig, Kohlensäure spielt fast überhaupt keine Rolle. Erst mit der Zeit kommt das markante Holzraucharoma durch, welches schön und harmonisch in den Körper eingebunden ist. Die süße Malzigkeit verabschiedet sich aber nicht völlig und schimmert immer mal wieder durch. Mit sanfter Malzbittere und einer Rauchnote wie nach vor sich hinglimmenden Holzspänen endet das Posthörnla. Ein sehr gutes, süffiges und vergleichsweise mildes Rauchbier.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2023 Das Posthörnla der Braerei Hönig habeich bei Landbierparadies24 gekauft und es kommt in der NRW Flasche daher. In allen Belangen entspricht es dem Rauchbier Lager der Brauerei Spezial, jedoch hat es mehr Alkohol. Eine Vergleichsverkostung würde sich hier lohnen. Auf beiden Seiten ein tolles Bier!

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2022 Getrunken als „Posthörnla …das Rauchige“ mit 5,2 % Alk. Bernsteinfarben. Süß / rauchiger Geruch. Die malzige Süße ist geschmacklich deutlich vorhanden, aber nicht so stark wie im Geruch. Angenehmer, leicht „holziger“ Geschmack. Spuren von Honig sind erkennbar. Der Rauch sehe ich knapp unter Medium angesiedelt. Hopfung sehr dezent - die recht süße Grundnote könnte ein wenig mehr herben Konter gut vertragen. Schön weich, fliest wie warmes Leichtlauföl die Kehle runter.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2021 Labelled Posthörnla (without Spezial) with 5.2%. Clear amber with an off-white head that dilapidates quickly. Taste is malty with a very distant roast and a gentle bitterness.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2021 Bottle picked up from Hier-Gibt's-Bier Webshop, Eckersdorf, Franconia. Consumed at home 5th April 2021 listening to Shame - Drunk Tank Pink cooking Greek Village Sausage (starter) and Pastitsio. Light amber in colour, pretty clear looking with a white head. Some light smoke on the nose, a little burnt wood. In the mouth picking up smokiness, malt, woody, bread, nice soft moutheel, a little grassy hop. Good but not completely doing it for me.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2021 50cl Bottle @ De Bierkoning, Amsterdam, Netherlands. Amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma is malt, hints of smoked ham. Taste si malt, sweet, smoked ham. Medium body, average carbonation.

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2020 ABV 5,2%. Piana beżowa, nietrwała, średniej wysokości, pozostawiała ślad na bokach szkła. Kolor ciemnej herbaty, przejrzysty. Aromat palonego słodu, skórki chleba, pumperniklu, wędzonki, szynki, karmelu, nie jest super intensywnie, ale na pewno czuć, że to Rauchbier. Smak na pierwszym planie palony słód, wędzonka, w tle słodkawy posmak, wyczuwalna również goryczka, karmel, chleb. Piwo z lekkim ciałem, dobre.
