COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black & Wild is the antithesis of most American Wild Ales. The robust nature of the intense acidity, bold sour cherries, and chocolaty malt is layered with the deep notes of vanilla, spicy charred oak, and rich caramels from the used whiskey barrels in which this beer matured for more than a year.

UPDATED: FEB 1, 2024 On tap at Side Project Cellar. Black with tan head. Dark fruit, berries, some roastiness, cocoa, oak bourbon, nice smooth texture. Medium+ bodied. Drink nicely.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2020 750 ml bottle shared by b3shine. Pours dark brown to black in color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have tart dark fruits, black cherries, roasted malts, some acidity, chocolate, apple vinegar, the cherry character is huge, I really liked this in the smaller 5 oz. sample but would have struggled with more (although I had a little more).

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2019 Taster at Spuyten Duyvil during Zwanze. Black color, small tan head. Smells of wood, bourbon, booze, marzipan, some glue, vanilla, very nice smell. Full body, light carbonation. Tastes of glue, booze, peppery notes, some wood, peppery, grassy. Finishes dry and lightly sour with notes of wood, peppery notes and some glue. 375 ml bottle to snifter. Looks good; a lightly translucent dark cola with lighter beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells malty with nootes of dark chocolate, vanilla, cherry, and oak. Tastes like it smells with an extremely acidic medium full-bodied mouthfeel. Solid, but I couldn't drink more than a few ounces.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Pours murky and brown with no head. The aroma is a voluptuous marriage of chocolate-covered sour cherries and caramel. Medium to full-bodied with feather-soft carbonation. The flavor is sour and fruity with limited toastiness. Loaded with cherries and acute acidity. Short, crisp, citric finish. This world-class beer was provided by landhoney!

This beer is crazy nuanced. It puts nearly every other beer I’ve tried this year to shame, despite being in a style I’m not overly fond of. Nose is cocoa, caramels, hint of cinnamon, wisps of balsamic. Pricks the tongue immediately with acidity, rich tart cherries, hints of bourbon sweetness and rye spice, and a lasting acetic quality. All told, this beer is hard to deny. I wish it was a touch less sour. Otherwise it’s basically perfect.

Bottle. Brown pour with a kaki head. Sour berry and barrel bouquet. Huge acidic sour cherries, vinegar, oak, and malt notes. Tart but tasty. Good body and mouthfeel.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Black body with a huge khaki head. Nice looking. I immediately smell bourbon. Strong acidity and roasted malt. Maybe cherries? Taste is much stronger cherry. Intensely sour. Overpowers everything. Some roasted malt and a little bitterness, but mostly sourness. Well carbonated. Medium body. Flavorful, but overwhelmed by sourness. I get none of the barrel in the taste, though.

beernbourbon (1639) - Glendale, Arizona, USA - OCT 2, 2015
Bottle at cellar. Pour is black with a medium tan head. Aroma is tart with some vinegar and woody components. Lots of berry. Flavor is also tart with lots Of Berry And a hint of vinegar. There is an underlying roasted malt component that creeps up and stays. It balances it all out. I did not expect to like this but it was so interesting and balanced.
