UPDATED: FEB 3, 2019 Bottle in Craft Room. Hazy brown color with red hue and no head. Caramel aroma with hints of smoke. Medium sweet taste, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, bit smokey, no alcohol. Thin to medium body, flat, creamy. Sweet finish with some dark fruit.

12 oz bottle. Aroma of malt and caramel with a hint of chocolate. Pours a darker brown into the glass. Even though it is dark, the beer is quite clear. A little thick, tastes quite sweet with a delicate touch of bitter. Tastes malty with notes of caramel and chocolate. The taste of booze is well hidden. A heavier beer, makes a decent sipper.

12 oz bottle poured sent over by JStax. Thanks, Jeremy! Bottled 1/23/2013. Haven't tried this fresh, but glad to try it at this point either way. A dark, reddish brown pour, rocky tan fizz head. Explosion of caramel and molasses, despite the description advertising a hint of said features. Smooth malty constant with this. This is definitely rich, but I wouldn't call it too sweet. Lingering caramel finish. Very nice, unique brew here.

Bottle in Seattle. Thanks for saving this Andrew. 2013 bottle. Foamy, eggshell head on copper brown. Nose of deeply oxidized raisins and bitter dark grains. Sweet molasses and nuts. Deep oxidization throughout. Dry finish, a touch chalky. A bit unusual, probably past it’s prime, but it’s solid. And tasty.

From 2d2dspuma. In Teku glass. Playing Avernum 4. Bottled 19 Jan 2016. 28+ months after bb date. Typical notes of a doppelbock still here but drier than desiderable. A bit boring. No foam at all

Aromas are very heavily malt oriented - caramel and bread with hints of raisin and perhaps clove. Very low hop presence. Color is an attractive reddish-brown with a small light tan head; very little lacing. Taste is slightly sweet, fruity (raisin, plum), malty. Low bitterness. Slightly lively carbonation which works well with the malty, slighty sweet taste. The fairly high alcohol level is not overly apparent. Overall it’s fairly good though a bit too malt dominated for my taste.

Nice aroma of toasted oats and caramel. Medium bodied, toast, raisin, slight bit of vegetable and chocolate. Nice finish. Very clean. Great for the style.

(Bottle) Clear, dark caramel body with a small, vanishing beige head. Aroma of malty caramel, stone fruit, slight apple. Medium to full bodied; round, soft and silky mouthfeel. Flavor is very malty and sweet; caramel, bread, raisin and other mixed fruit.

UPDATED: JUN 3, 2018 Bottle from K&L in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is caramel covered apples, some raisin bread, prunes. Taste is raisins, prunes, mild apple juice, toasted dark bread. Dark fruit and then dark fruited bread and then dark fruit dry skins...very dark fruited bread vibes.

A very solid doppelbock. Very malty sweet, plenty of caramel and a little apple. Medium bodied and deceptively powerful.
