Tap at EBBC14, black with a lasting cream head and aromas of roasty coffee. Dry, roasty palate, watery or maybe milky in the middle, then a dry burnt bitterness with a touch of dark cocoa. Intriguing variation on the style.

(draught) pours black in colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of heavy butter and toffee, with notes of cherries, sugar icing and marshmallow. flavour is more marshmallow, toffee and butter, with a hint of caffé latte and vanilla in the tangy finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

On tap at the Red Squirrel. Appearance - opaque black with a nice creamy head. It’s a stout. Nose - cream a hint of chocolate but generally a bit elusive. Taste - dried fruits going into cherries. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a dry finish. Overall - interesting fruity notes. I was expecting their traditional Irish dry stout.

Cask @ Cobblestones, Dublin. Black with a creamy head and a light roasted aroma. Has a fuller flavour including chocolates.

Very dark brown, ruby edges, tan dense nitro head
Aroma - Touch of dry roasted malt, not getting much here
Taste - Soft roasted malts, chocolate, dark quite sweet malts, dab of chocolate ice cream(!)
Palate - soft carb, medium body, very creamy texture, quite sweet dark malts with some bitter roast. Finish as main flavour, smooth. little dry, fairly rapid finish, cleans off palate
Overall - Very smooth, really nice chocolately sweet dark malts, great alternative to Guinness

Pint, Nitro, Farringtons, Dublin. Jet black, huge lasting cream coloured head. Can’t get much aroma through the bishops collar. Flavour is medium, dry roast malt, balanced with a good dose of English hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth, smooth, smooth. Not much carbonation. Hints of coffee in the finish. Would like to try from the cask.

Cask at WJ Kavanagh. Jet black with a solid stout head. Aroma is light roasted malt. Flavour is toasted malt, nice dry stout base with a long roasted peat finish.

Draught at Porterhouse Cork. Pours a lovely dark cloudy brown with a thinnish tan head that remains for duration of pint. Aroma is quite prominent for a nitroed stout, with strong chocolate and coffee hints. Taste is a nice medium sweetness followed by a medium roasty bitterness - roasted malts, coffee and a hint of chocolate are present. Palate is quite dry, full bodied, and offers a lingering roasty bitterness. Quite a good deal better than I remembered.
