Bottle. Pours brown with minimum beige head. Aroma: caramel, smoke, malty, toffee, hay. Taste: sweet, caramel, malty. A bit boring. Medium + body. Warming alcohol is the good thing.

Served in a snifter from a 330ml bottle. Deep ruby-brown colour with a thick tan head, leaving nice thick lacing behind. Aroma is of scotch, red berries, bread, roasted malts and molasses. Taste is moderately sweet with dark fruits, caramel and clear scotch notes present. Medium very smooth body with subtle carbonation, finishing off with a long sweet finish. Very nice ale and is worth having again, and again, and again!

Bottle 0.33L. Brown body with ruby nuances; average, frothy, tan head, mostly diminishing with some lacing, though. Moderate malty (caramel, a bit roasted) aroma with notes of red fruits (cherry liqueur), chocolate and light honey. Moderate sweet and light-to-moderate bitter flavour with a nice mild roasted note in the finish. Medium-to-full body with oily-to-creamy texture; soft carbonation. Nice one!

Originally rated on 8/13/08. McEwans scotch ale poured a deep brown body, when held to light a nice amber color appears, lightly carbonated the is a thin head. Aroma of sweet bread and malt. Flavors of the fore mentioned along with hints of chocolate, and brown sugar. Creamy mouthfeel smooth despite the 8% alc. Overall a pretty good beer.

One of my Favorite ales and like the rich tastes and choc slaty smoky smell. Has an 8% alcohol content and fills you up very quickly. Great winter ale.

Pours muddy reddish dark brown color, with creamy off-white stable head. Visually medium carbonation. Aroma: prevails aroma of malts, which takes on toffee, with hint of hop aroma in the background, which takes on dark fruits. Flavor: rich malt flavor, which takes on biscuit, toffee, with hints of honey, very well balanced with hop flavors, which takes on dark fruits like plums, prunes, blueberries, etc. Body is medium to full, texture is soft, carbonation is medium. Overall: very good, but still somehow onedimensional palate-typical for that style.

Brown color with an off-white head that lingers on and forms lacing pretty well. The aroma is very faint and not intense at all, some caramel and a hint of raisins, but that’s about all. Where this beer shines is in the flavor and after taste. Very lush and thick, rich mouthfeel, medium-full body with a pretty well-attenuated finish. Only thing to complain a little about here is the relatively weak aroma.
