Any way to measure the rate of attrition?

Not unless I’d been logging data per day (or week or month). TBH I bet this info isn’t even available internally.

Active users is a hard thing to define. I appreciate what you’ve contributed though.

There’s the last seen date which I’m gathering as I slowly sample the users, however, so few users stay longer than a day I really don’t have enough data to draw any even vaguely reliable conclusions yet.

And it gets worse, as apparently some new users have neither a joined date nor a last seen date, so there will be no way of measuring retention:

Strangely, I’ve detected someone with a last seen date, but no joined date. I’m not sure if that makes even less sense or not:

No - *we* are great. We’re surrounded by people who suck, though.

Do you think RB really only has 10K active users?

With registered accounts? Absolutely. Remember, we’ve only had 500k account registrations ever, in over 15 years. Punch in random user numbers and you’ll see that practically none of them are active. 1 in 50 even seems like a stretch. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we had fewer than 5000 monthly actives, 3000 weekly actives, and fewer than 2000 active raters.

OK, tried looking at the users all around my user number. Almost all of them have no ratings, one time log ins, and the the other couple haven’t logged in since 2007! Eye opener.
None were active.

But still, UT has no place to put text in about a user’s experience with the beer, just a star or tick rating, or am I missing something?

How is it hard to define? Active users is very well standardized in the industry.
