72 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 3/10 OVERALL 13/20 GTAEgeek (103) Atlanta, Georgia | May 4, 2013 Pretty nondescript storefront. Wine in the front, beer in the back, with a bar area in the middle. The beer selection is excellent. Lots of Belgians, wide selection of local brews, and even a good spread of ciders. The workers are friendly, obviously love the beer, and are very helpful. The prices are a bit steep. Overall, this is a great store. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 LionsMaine (6) North Carolina | March 28, 2013 Where to start here. These guys (Chuck, Jeff & Sam) are super service oriented people. It’s kind of like visiting your good pals beer store...everytime. The selection is the best in Asheville hands down, with the prices blowing the doors off the closest competitor. I’ve scored some real west coast gold here too: Lost Abbey, Russian River etc. unfortunately due to trophy hunters looking for another notch in their belt, these beers are only available to regulars now. Totally understandable IMO you have to show support to get beers they’ve gone WAY out of their way for. The local brew selection is the best in town too with a large growler selection from Pisgah, Nantahala, Catawba and Green Man. Website is usually not completely up to date with new arrivals so their ratebeer site usually is better, but a phone call has worked too.
10 tap lines rotating local/import sours, barrel aged beers and a cask pump, I had the Foothills Hoppyum IPA primed with honey last time, holy mother. NEVER seen a draft beer here that was not at least some what rare. Beautiful space, clean glassware, filtered water, large bar with seating for 25+ with tables and two large comfy couches. Beer area is in the back, well lit and spacious with shopping carts in the front when you walk in. Patio outside for smokers, fresh air. Wine selection is also huge if you are into that and dogs are welcome.
Parking lot beside the store is massive, free and clean and there are also at least six other lots around the store that you can park at for free so getting in and out is a breeze.
Best in Asheville for sure. If you visit take your time and talk to the owners they are super helpful and usually have something lying around that is not easily seen. If you are looking for specifics give them a call they will usually order beers that are not in stock. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 18/20 Drake (392) Ivy, Virginia | February 19, 2013 Located a bit South of Asheville. Small parking lot. Large, open space inside with wines in front, beers in back, and a center bar with ten taps and a cask option while I was there. One person working who was very helpful, and very friendly. Beer tends to be everywhere, even outside the main beer area, so keep your eyes peeled. Great selection of both foreign, domestic and NC beers. I picked up beers from Epic Brewing, Stillwater, Olde Hickory and I think I’m forgetting one. A few rarities. The tap selection was top notch, though they can’t fill growlers due to state law. Dumb. Prices are a touch high. Overall, this is a great beer store and it rivals Bruisin Ales. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 jbruner (56) Tallahassee, Florida | January 30, 2013 Hands down the best bottle shop I have been to in Asheville. Great selection and service, very friendly and knowledgeable. Very much feels like you are walking into a Pier1, but the booze takes you other places instantly. They have plenty of bottles of typically available stuff to Asheville, as well as rare stuff, and a bar with 12 taps you can taste right there. Much better prices than the competitors, and reasonable for what I purchased. Great stop. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 BMMillsy (33) Florida | January 9, 2013| Updated January 14, 2013 Just did an order online for shipping. Excellent selection and was able to land Black Ops, Imperial Biscotti, and Bad Baptist among some others I can’t find here in Florida. Great selection, although the website does list a bunch of beers they don’t have in stock. Boxing/shipping was pricey but that comes with the territory of mail order. Beer prices themselves seemed about where they should be I guess. Quick and easy shipping. Gotta love mail order for out-of-dist stuff. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 Suttree (131) Knoxville, Tennessee | November 20, 2012| Updated November 21, 2012 Stopped by here because it was close to where I was staying and Bruisin’ was closed on Monday. Very cool place! Nice selection, plus they carry wine. 10 taps or so, well chosen. The staff was friendly and made a few suggestions, but were not overbearing. Nice place, and I may have to put it on my regular rotation... | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Westmeister (53) Atlanta, Georgia | October 15, 2012| Updated November 21, 2012 First, I have never had the pleasure of drinking a beer while looking a what beers to purchase. That was a treat. The owner was super helpful in narrowing my search to must have local brews. Prices were more favorable than Brusin’. Overall, good selection, loved the bar in the middle of the store and I would say this is the best store in Asheville. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Shelltown (6) North Carolina | August 6, 2012 LOVE these guys!! HUGE store, huge bar and patio. The best selection and best service in Asheville period. All the local breweries, hard to find imports, Trappist Ales, sours, barrel aged beers and a whole wall of glasses for sale. 10 tap lines with rotating local, domestic and import craft beer, cask system. Free parking in a HUGE lot next to the building. They usually have things in the cellar as well, if you are willing to talk to them. Even some Russian River.......! | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 13/20 mnoud (26) Martinsburg, West Virginia | July 18, 2012 Nice large store with good floor area, wooden floors if I remember correctly. Ample parking for a dozen vehicles or so. Bar with taps can seat maybe a dozen people. Have a brew while browsing bottles. Beer selection is limited but ample - I would have expected more than in my local shops in WV and MD, but it's about the same. More Mikkeller selections than I see at home, though, as an example. I was the only one in the store so Charles and I talked beer and he suggested things based on my tastes, etc, while I drank an Old Hickory Daniel Boone. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 b3shine (179) Cincinnati, Ohio | July 9, 2012 This is the best beer store in Asheville, hands down. The two brothers who own it are incredible knowledgeable and friendly, and they have a tap selection so you can have one (or two) whole you look around. And they have a good wine selection too. Great bottle shop! |
