3.6
Town Hall Dortmunder Lager
Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #53. Draught pint at the brewpub, August 2008. Bright gold with a fair head that dies to almost nothing quickly...aroma is a mixture of dry, musty, old grasses and weedy and some newer, fresher stuff - like new-mown hay thatís been pulled off a spot of last yearís grasses that have half-turned to humus...juicy and grassy-bitter in the body, light woody-toasty character, nicely balanced with excellent pils malts...full and pretty close to perfectly carbonated. Good one to go out on as this was the last trip I made to TH (at this point); sure hope to get back again and wouldnít mind seeing this one on for another go-round.

Town Hall Cara Java Brown
Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #52. Draught pint at the brewpub, August 2008. Dark caramel-brown with a bit of head, translucent...powerful sweet, smooth coffee aroma, coffee-with-cream-and-sugar I guess, and hints of nuttiness...this carries through into the body, which is pretty sweet and full, lots of lightly toasty malts and little to no hop presence...gets a bit thin towards the finish but still reasonably potent in the flavor and body departments. Quite solid.

Town Hall Warrior Double Dry
Un-Muzzling Olde Muzzlehatch Ratings, #51. Draught (pint or glass, I canít read my writing, and who cares after 8 years?) at the brewpub, August 2008. Pale and lightly hazy, on the border of gold and amber, some lasting head...funky-pungent nose with more resinous than citric character, wet forest...the body follows along the same lines with woody and acidic fruity notes, but it is indeed pretty dry, though thereís enough body (just...it thins out a little much at the finish) and juiciness and spicy, complex hop notes to keep it interesting and drinkable.

Town Hall Blood Orange Lager
All Pints North 2016. I liked this a lot. Orange color. Well hoped and lots of orange flavor. Well carbonated and good palate. The orange flavor combined with the hops make this dry, with citrus and good lager flavor. I am surprised others have not liked it.

Town Hall Thunderstorm Summer Ale
5 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-24-16. Nice, clear, bright bronze. Small to moderate amount of long-lasting cream to beige head. Stately and likable appearance. Weak, vaguely lemony smell. Much more powerful and sweet flavor. Both lemongrass and honey are unmistakable. Herbal, grassy, lemony, honeyed taste. Herbality is a nice contrast to the honey sweetness, but, nonetheless, it ends up far too sweet for my preferences. Harsh in its strong flavors at first and grates on multiple sips. Medium body, light for the ABV. Somewhat lively, frothy, and smooth in the palate. The aroma gets a 5 for blandness. The flavor gets a 4 for excess. Not up my alley.

Town Hall Blood Orange Lager
5 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-24-16. Lovely, hazy coral color. Looks like a sunset in a glass. Small amount of beige head also tinted similarly to the liquid. Definite citrus in the aroma. Smells like a cooked or overripe orange or an orange and balsamic mix, which I suppose is what a blood orange smells like. Similar flavor is more directly identifiable as blood orange. Iím not a big fan of the fruit, and I really donít think it works well in beer. Not digging this one at all. Lemon and orange Fruity Pebbles or Life Savers candy (i.e., artificial citrus). Lively and frothy in the palate. Medium body. Doesnít work for me. Seems well enough made but the main flavors simply arenít good.

Town Hall Galaxy
5 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-24-16. Clear, bright gold to bronze. Small amount of cream to beige head. Looks nice. Pleasant, hoppy aroma. I wouldnít call the smell subdued, but itís definitely not particularly strong. Funky, citric, minty smell. Eucalyptus and lemon scents. Straying a bit into the tropical scents that I favor less among modern hops. Subdued to moderate hoppiness in flavor matches aroma. Dry at first but finishes fruity. Some pine, some minty lemongrass herbality. A bit of black peppercorn spice. Pleasant flavor but not enough of it and very little malt base flavor worth mentioning, as is typical for the style. Light body. Frothy. Insubstantial palate effects. A decent session IPA overall, but what need do I, who doesnít drink a single beer in a session, have for such a thing? The non-session version of this beer could have been a decent to pretty good IPA, I suspect. This version was 4.6% ABV.

3.2
Town Hall Apricot Wheat Ale
5 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-24-16. Hazy, apricot brass. Looks like nectar. Small amount of off-white to beige head. Pleasant, floral aroma. Apricot is light but present. Floral, sweet flavor. Apricot is subtle and comes more in the form of fructose sweetness and perfume. A little too far in that direction for my tastes. Light body. Frothy in the palate. Not the most substantial palate but fits the beer. Well enough done for what it is but not my thing.

Town Hall Broken Paddle ESB
5 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 7-24-16. Mostly clear, slightly hazy bronze to dull amber. Small to moderate amount of creamy, beige head. Ordinary appearance. Juicy, bready, malty smell. Underbaked bread and orange citrus scents. Not my favorite aroma. Simple, clean, dry, cracker flavor. The juicier, stronger elements from aroma are there but, thankfully, toned down. Dry finish and aftertaste. Perhaps too dry. Medium body. Smooth and a bit frothy. Forgettable palate effects. Doesnít do it for me. Not as well executed as is typical for Town Hall.

Town Hall Masala Mama IPA
16 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. The aroma has some sweet, floral and pine hop character. Light dank. Quaffable. Transparent ruddy copper body with a medium, creamy off white head present. Starts with some mild to moderate pine hop resins. Moderate bitterness. Some chewy caramel tannic maltiness comes through in the middle with a mild toffee flavor. Finishes mildly bitter. Another well-balanced, killer IPA.

On cask at the brewery. Amber pour with a huge single finger head. Lots of pine and a little grapefruit in the aroma. Medium bodied with a dry finish. Hoppier than expected, which Iím not complaining about. Big time amarillo. A little caramel starts to creep in as it warms. Non stop pine and grapefruit though. Nice beer, although full disclaimer, Iím a sucker for super hoppy reds.

Town Hall Vernal Vine
16 oz. pour, on tap at the brewpub in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 5-30-16. Lightly hazy apricot/bronze. Small to moderate amount of beige head. Peachy, fresh, citric, hoppy aroma. Maraschino cherry scent. Very pleasant, fresh, and refreshing smell. Nice, dry, moderately bitter flavor. Classic west coast hoppiness. Nice, citric tartness. Just a touch of Mosaic funkiness and Simcoe grassy cat pee. Chalky, iodine finish. Really well done and enjoyable. Medium body. Lively in the palate. Almost numbing hoppiness on the palate. Refreshing. Delicious and very well done. One of the best Town Hall beers Iíve had in a long time, maybe ever. A great reminder of how compelling and tasty a well-done West Coast IPA (and Town Hall) can be. A brilliant beer.
