Tyranena BGW Benjis Chipotle Smoked Imperial Porter
12 oz. bottle, consumed on 8-3-16. Several months old, perhaps nearing a year of aging. Pours dark brown (ultimately a very dark amber) with a small to moderate amount of short-lasting, beige to taupe head. Ordinary porter/stout appearance, and the short-lasting head does the appearance no favors. Very nice aroma of roasted malts with a kick of roasted peppers. Dark chocolate, cocoa, and pepper spice scents. Smells good. Really nice, roasted malt flavor with a little something extra. Quite tasty. Chocolate mole or rich, dark, Mexican hot chocolate. Lively in the palate. Medium to medium/full body. Just a really nice and tasty beer. The pepper has subsided somewhat since I initially tried this beer months ago, and I remember the aroma and flavor popping / standing out a little more then.

Tyranena BGW Blueberry Thrill Imperial IPA
Picked up single 12-oz bottle from Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear copper amber colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing. Aroma of citrus, pine, some caramel malt and a hint of powdered blackberries. Taste is medium to full bodied, a touch spicy with flavors of pine, citrus, blueberries and caramel malt. Finish has a short spicy hop bitterness followed by a dark berry and pine aftertaste. Definitely not over-"berried" with fruit flavors. A solid imperial IPA with a hint of blueberry flavor.

Tyranena BGW Socialite - Imperial Brown aged in Red Wine Barrels
Picked up four pack from Star Liquors in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a dark reddish brown colored brew with a thick beige head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, raisin, a touch of grape and citrus hops. Taste is medium to medium-full bodied, with flavors of roasted caramel malt, raisin, light chocolate and floral hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a raisin and caramel malt aftertaste.

Tyranena Down Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout
12 ounce bottle. A big tan head falls slowly and the beer under it is dark brown with amber highlights. An earthy cocoa aroma with just a hint of hops behind that. Flavor is pleasant. That earthy chocolate and oatmeal are evident as is a bit of zingy hop bitterness. Citrus. Lactose is tasted later along with a hint of char. Nice.

Tyranena Headless Man Amber Alt
Bottle at home from notes. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have toasted grainy malts, some floral and herbal tea hop character, some bready character, a splash of toffee, just ok.

Tyranena BGW Blueberry Thrill Imperial IPA
Bottle. Hazed amber body with a smaller, but tight meringue looking, blue hued cream colored head. Malt and berries dominate the nose. Not sweet sickening berries, rather like berries as if drenched in cream. A hint of alcohol. A bit of blackberry liquor. Light sweet start, with mild berries. Some floral hops that work well with the berries. If youíre a hophead, you are not likely to think this is anything special. If you like balance beers, that offer flavors that are not necessarily within the norms, give this a try. I think I remember the tap to be a little more fruit forward.

Tyranena BGW Blueberry Thrill Imperial IPA
Small, tan head thatís short lived but leaves a touch of thin lacing around the glass. Murky gold hued brew. Light nose of blueberries and alcohol. Med/full bodied, low carbo, light bit oily. Fruity hops, light blueberry and some lightly sweet malts. Tingly sweet finish but does have a rough bitterness and a hint of blueberry tangy tang. Tough stuff! 12oz bottle from the polish sledgehammer! Props Todd!

12oz bottle from Discount in Waukesha. Brownish red pour, white head. Nose has sweet malts, red wine producing almost a raisiny presence. The taste is better; sweet tartness from the wine barrels blending nicely with the great Tyranena sweet malts. Quite smooth. Little alcohol presence. Finishes tangy sweet. 14

Tyranena BGW Blueberry Thrill Imperial IPA
12oz bottle from the brewery. Orange amber pour with an off-white head leaving streaky lace. Aroma starts with whatever that Tyranena hop profile is - pine, citrus, some sweet caramel - plus the Tyranena house yeast? Solid. Taste adds more berry presence, although not strongly so. Medium to full bodied, the carbonation is soft and there is a bit of an alcohol presence. The blend is solid. Finishes sweeter than bittersweet. This is a solid takeoff of the typical Tyranena ipa, with that nice light blueberry presence making it a touch sweeter. 14.2

Howler from the source. Love the freshness .... For my 2400th rating! Orangey copper pour with an off-white head leaving nice streaky lacing. Aroma has citrus, pine, more citrus, and sweet malts. Taste is of sweet fruits, big Mosaic hops, tangy pine, citrus fruits, honey, and some resin with biscuity malts. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, the blend is quite good with a touch of alcohol. Finishes very well blended between bitter and sweet. This is very tasty! Happy to see Tyranena reach out to new hoppy stuff for their hoppy brews. 14.7

Tyranena Bourbon Barrel Surprise
Snifter at the source. Brownish red pour. Beige head. Aroma has sweet malts, raisins, vanilla. Taste is of sweet malts, light peat, vanilla, raisin, and some brown sugar. Certainly a scotch ale. Certainly sweet. Medium to full bodied. The blend is good, quite smooth, the carbonation is low and there is some alcohol presence. Finishes sweet and somewhat tangy. With a bourbon kick. Maybe that is the answer for what to do with a scotch ale - bury it in a bourbon barrel for 4 years ... Also another testament to Tyranenaís barrel stuff. This is tasty and good. 14.8

Tyranena BGW Balling The Queen Imperial IPA
This is pretty much spot-on or an IIPA. Almost no hops on the aroma, just sweetness. Taste is caramel, a bit of honey, super-mild citrus hops, way too much booze. Burns the back of my throat. After taste is fairly bitter. Itís a decent IIPA, but not quite for me with the too-obvious ABV and super-sweetness.

Tyranena BGW Benjis Chipotle Smoked Imperial Porter
Really smoky, caramelized malts, char in this aroma; deep brown color, pond scum like khaki crown; light sweet smoke and caramel malt, hints of pepper (really subtle at first but grows with each sip), dark chocolate through the finish; medium to medium full body, really nice silky mouthfeel; good amount of smokiness, would like the pepper to be a touch more explicit, but still damn good overall. 12 fl oz bottle.

Tyranena BGW Benjis Chipotle Smoked Imperial Porter
12 ounce bottle, bottled on 11JAN16 stamped on the bottle. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with almost an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The brew smells like subtle smoke, chili peppers, and chocolate. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, itís subtle smoke, chili peppers and chocolate. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís coating and has a moderate amount of carbonation. Itís also smooth and easy enough to drink. I thought this was OK overall, but I wish it had more kick to it. I think this is the 3rd beer Iíve tried from Tyranena and I canít say any of them have impressed me (not that their beers have been bad either). But if you like subtle chili pepper flavor, then give this a try.
