3.2 Marshall Black Dolphin Stout On tap at Marshall, pours black with a small beige head. Aroma brings out soft bourbon barrels and medium roast, with some chaotic booziness in back. Flavour is dominated by the whiskey barrels, with plenty of bourbon, boozey hotness and a rather thin malt backbone given the size of this. Needs some more body and more refinement. As is, it’s alright. Tuesday, December 13, 2022

2.5 Marshall El CuCuy On tap at Marshall, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bittering earthy hops and light toasted malt — harsh and jagged. Flavour is harsh, with bitter earthy hops, toasted malt, and a general chaotic booziness. This doesn’t work. It’s not a disaster but how is this rated so highly? This needs serious work. Tuesday, December 13, 2022

3.6 Marshall USS Tulsa Oatmeal IPA On tap at Marshall, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Aroma brings out oily resins, pine, oats, and some chalk. Flavour is clean and vibrant, with piney hops, some tanginess and some dankness, and a hearty oat character. That’s surprisingly nice on the hop expression, finishing tangy, bitter, and piney. Good stuff. Tuesday, December 13, 2022

1.7 Marshall Quad (Bourbon Barrel) On tap at Marshall, pours a clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma is very hot, full of perfume, glue, and nary a trace of anything quad-like. Flavour is a travesty, with tons of glue, booze, esters… ugh, this is a vile trainwreck. Undrinkable garbage. Tuesday, December 13, 2022
mcberko |
3.2 Marshall McNellies Pub Ale On tap at Marshall, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Aroma brings out bready malt of the English variety, with subdued hops. Flavour is clean enough, with bittering English hops and a soft bready malt base. Clean and easy-drinking, with more aggressive hops than a typical English bitter — perhaps thanks to not casking this. Decent. Tuesday, December 13, 2022

3 Marshall Volks Pils Nice frothy head. Cloudy/Hazy. Nose reminds me of a Bavarian Pils (e.g. Ayinger Bavarian Pils). Nice pilsner-like crispness on the palate! Would buy again! Wednesday, March 25, 2020

3.2 Marshall This Land Lager Great-looking can design, poured a hazy golden colour with weak white foam. More like a zwickel than a true Helles, fairly low aroma, fuller flavor of rich malts, mildly spicy hoppy bitterness, light body, moderate carbonation, semi-dry finish. Basic but pretty good. 5 Marshall Atlas IPA My favorite beer. Much fresher than Sierra Nevada. I don't care about the look of it, I drink it from a bottle. It just tastes great. Smooth, great hoppiness and never gives me a hangover. Sunday, March 24, 2019

4.3 Marshall Big Jamoke Porter I live only a few miles from the brewer, so we get our Marshal brews in fresh condition. Poured from a 12 oz bottle, the dark roast Sumatran coffee color and deep tan head let you know this isn't a beer for the bud lite or IPA of the month crowd. A hard pour rewards the glassholder with a rush of strong coffee and chocolate notes, mixed in with the roasty sweet malt and understated yeast of a really good American porter. The taste is coffee up front, quickly followed by bitter chocolate, with a sweet caramel bridging the developing earthy hop notes at the end. I don't taste the fruit some reviewers have noted, but it doesn't need it. This is a loud, proud, but friendly porter that stacks up to any of it's type anywhere. Friday, December 28, 2018
