Bull City Starlite Black Nite, Black Lager

Brewer: Bull City Burger and Brewery
Style: Schwarzbier / Black Lager
Alcohol Content: 5%
Seasonal: No

Description:
Black lagers, or Schwarzbier (black beer) as they are known in Germany, have a long and varied history. This dark lager started out as a German Ale in the Thuringia and Saxony regions in the mid-1500’s. It is often referred to as the stout of Germany; however, the style does not use dark roasted barley which gives a distinct British stout/porter character. Rather, this dark beer is crisp, clean, and non-roasty in style with a true lager essence. Revealing a smooth drinking body that won’t weigh you down, you can drink a toast to Bob Groves from the old Starlite drive-in movie theater in Durham. Everyone knew Bob and his friendly greeting at the gate. The Starlite opened in the mid-1940s, then closed down in 1961. In 1986 Bob took over and operated a concession stand/gun shop/movie rental store and flea market at the drive-in. The screen burned down in 2004 and the community helped raise funds to rebuild and open again in 2005. In March of 2007, Bob suddenly passed away and the Starlite theater was soon gone.
