NoDescription:Venskab (the Danish word for ‘friendship’) is the fourth beer release in Beau’s Friendship Series: beers designed and brewed in collaboration with other brewers we know and love. Self-proclaimed “Gypsy brewer” and luminary Anders Kissmeyer of Denmark’s Kissmeyer Beers conceived and created Venskab in collaboration with Beau’s All Natural’s brewmaster Matthew O’Hara.
History & Style
Venskab was brewed based on a Belgian Tripel style. It was hopped with German Perle and Belgian Cascade, and some bog myrtle was added into the kettle to add a herbal nuance. The beer was strengthened with some organic cane sugar added into initial fermentation, then during conditioning the beer aged on Southbrook Organic Ice Wine-soaked oak chips. Venskab was then aged in Canadian white wine barrels for several months. A final touch was the addition of yuzu, a Japanese citrus fruit, and then the beer was prepared for bottle conditioning with the introduction of Champagne yeast and priming sugar.
Tasting Notes
The Venskab experience is a symphony of aromas and flavours. On the nose expect tropical and citrus fruits (pineapple, Japanese yuzu), as well as hints of Sauvignon Blanc and oak. The flavours reflect the same with remarkable depth and complexity. Well-integrated alcohol makes its presence felt, as does a drying earthiness.
Food Pairings
Like a robust white wine, Venskab is a very versatile and food-friendly beer. Try it with lobster and garlic butter, rosemary-crusted Ontario lamb, or Cashel Blue cheese.
