Smoked Alt is our annual rauchbier. We flavor the malt using our own smoker, using a new wood and recipe each year while maintaining a German theme. This batch is based on a classic copper colored alt beer that included 220 pounds of malt smoked with oak barrel staves that previously held the Fantasia and Saison du Blodget, two different sour beers. The alt has a gentle nose of oak and apple with light perfume and floral notes, followed by a smooth palate where the smoke takes center stage without being overwhelming. The finish is very soft thanks to the water profile and an authentic yeast strain, and at only 4.5% this is the most drinkable rauchbier we’ve made yet.
