Cigar City Kalevipoeg at the Gates of Hell - Rum Barrel

Brewer: Cigar City Brewing (Monster Beverage Corp)
Style: Porter - Baltic
Alcohol Content: 13.5%
Seasonal: Special

Description:
Estonia’s national epic poem “Kalevipoeg” tells the story of the eponymous hero and his adventures including a search for his kidnapped mother and the vanquishing of his enemies with stones and planks on the advice of a hedgehog. After being killed by a haunted sword, Kalevipoeg’s remains are fated to remain at the gates of Põrgu (hell) where he stands a sentinel for all eternity.

In honor of Kalevipoeg and the people of our favorite Baltic nation of Estonia, we originally brewed this unique lager in 2012 as our 1,000th batch of Cigar City beer. We’ve revived this favorite from the archives and brewed this hefty Baltic Porter with a complex malt bill and an experimental dwarf hop that contributes notes of stone fruit and a subtle spiciness. Rum barrels, in which the beer has spent many months, add a distinct texture and subtle hints of ripe red apple to both the flavor and aroma of this dark, lagered treat.
