Zum Kuchlbauer

The brewgasthof of the Kuchlbauer brewery. As always in the small southern german towns the beer is excelently priced. They don’t have 100 of different sorts but they have a few good ones.

Visited July 2013. Grand large building on the very nice Stadtplatz, possibly the site of the original brewery. Sat out front and had a Weisse, which was good. I had wanted to eat here but they decided to close between 2pm and 5pm. Seemed to be a traditional place inside.

This is the official brewery restaurant of Weißbierbrauer Kuchlbauer, not to be confused with their Kuchlabuers Bierwelt outside the town centre. Located in the beautiful town centre of historic Abensberg this is a very nice place to have lunch. When I visited the restaurant offered Hopfenspargel, which is a part of young hop plants. It was available as soup and as a vegetable accompanyment to other dishes. They offer their onw beers and, additionally, Pils and Helles from Schierling. The food was well prepared and delicious, the beer was well looked after as well. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Highly recommended if you are in the Hallertau or in Abensberg.
