62 Really nothing special in my opinion. Decent tap list and pretty good food. |
82 Stopped by when I was in Asheville for four days. Nice pizzeria with a great tap selection and very friendly service that knew beer and could talk about it with just about everyone in there. Lots of NC taps with some great area exclusives. Food is mostly Italian-themed, but plenty of options. I enjoyed this stop and will go back when I’m in town. |
74 (Visited 06/2015): Barley’s Taprrom & Pizzeria is located in downtown Asheville on Biltmore. Street parking is available nearby. There is a small sidewalk patio outside. The interior is two levels, with the downstairs featuring a long wooden bar along the left side, and long tables on the right. Upstairs is more of a bar area with pool tables and such. Lived-in feel with worn wood and breweriana on the walls. A row of tap handles is visible behind the bar, with a chalk board in the center listing beers. As for the beers, there are over 30 on tap featuring nearby breweries like Oskar Blues, Highland, Foothills and New Belgium (ahead of schedule). Some regional beers available in bottles as well. Service at the bar on a Friday afternoon was good. The bartender was familiar with the beer list, was friendly and made recommendations. We did not have any food on our visit. Overall this is a nice spot in Asheville, although it would be farther down the list of recommendations given there are so many other options with more compelling beers to try. |
82 This place has a decent overall selection of food and a good selection of brews. They feature mostly local craft beers which was fine because that is what I was looking for. |
78 Last stop of the night after a short-ish tour of downtown Asheville. Pretty cool old restaurant and bar with two levels. Downstairs is more of just your normal restaurant space and upstairs they have a number of bar games like darts and a handful of pool tables. Light stained wood everywhere. Plenty of seating and standing room. Very welcoming feel.
Beer list was good, though not amazing. Lots of local beers, certainly. A number from Asheville itself as well as North Carolina in general. Pretty large tap list as well, if nothing else. I believe the beers upstairs and downstairs are pretty much the same. Could certainly see this being sort of a go-to, local hangout if I lived in the area. |
58 This place is a bar and pizzeria all in one so from a unique beer selection standpoint, it falls short. They have a lot of craft local North Carolina beers as well as some New Belgium brewing company beers. This place though is a great place to watch a game and get a beer! |
72 We skipped the food and headed to the bar. There was a flight available which consists of local brews. The selection was rather nice, service alright and beers quite good. But I can’t see the reason why it’s Asheville’s 5th best rated place in RB. |
74 Cool place. Stopped in a for a quick beer and a snack. A little crowded, but well worth the stop. A good local draft list of local beers, decent food. Worth the stop. |
66 Much better Barley’s than Greenville, totally opposite spots. This location is clean and bright inside, huge bar to sit out, comfortable feel. The draft list focuses more on local state beers, which dominate the board of about 75% of the beers. They offer 4 sampler sets to tick. Service was ok, not overly friendly on a slow day, catered to the locals and lunch crowd. |
76 A nice pub and restaurant with a good selection of local beers. Barley’s kindly made their upstairs room available for the welcome reception of the RBWG 2014 and had put on a very good line up. I’ve eaten here in the past and seem to remember that the food was very good.
