70 Big place just outside the city center of Bern (connected through a bridge). Seems to be a popular spot. We visited early on a hot Saturday afternoon and the place was crowded, especially outside. We had two tap beers (a light oat lager, and a wit), and both beers were surprisingly good. They differentiate between people who eat and those who only drink beer, which makes things a bit complicated. Beers were self service. Very cool location. Overall good place, but I would recommend coming outside of peak times. |
42 Visited in September 2018. A huge old building that used to house trams, not far from the brown bear pit in Bern. Nowadays there are no trams. There is brewing equipment on display at the center of the building, surrounded by a big bar. Lots of tables inside, though we sat down outside. One of those places where I was made to feel most unwelcome after having ordered their overpriced beer and no food. Lackluster service catering only for snobs, beers good but not outstanding. Depending on how much time you have in Bern, this one can be skipped in favour of downing some bottled beers in the Rosengarten when the dusk sets in. Early Autumn sunsets in Bern are much more spectacular than this brewery anyway. |
74 A large bierhall-like brewpub and restaurant sellimg their own beers; át the tome of my visít, there were 5 beers on tap: their weizen, helles and marzen, as well as 2 seasonal beers of them and they alsó had severals of their beers in bottle; worth visiting |
68 Located, just next to the Bärengraben, with a good view over the Aare valley and the old town of Bern. Situated in a huge hall with the copper tanks behind the bar. They offer their three standard brews and two specials. Heavy food - Swiss classics but also Asian offerings. Prices were ok but the beer quality was average at best. Still worth going there for the atmosphere - can be packed. |
66 Really nice brewpub in the center of Bern. You can drink their references with the sweet smell of malts from the brewer down of the building. 5 eur for 0.3 l beer. |
62 In a nutshell: Go there for the beautiful view overlooking the town (ideally located next to the bear pit tourist attraction), not for the beer.
While Tramdepot usually offers their own Lager, Märzen and Weizen plus one special beer (on tap for about 1-2 months, recipe and style always changing) there are better alternatives in the old town for people who truly enjoy good beer minus the view (namely "Au Trappiste" and "Erzbierschof Krone", both beer bars are only a few hundred meters away from Tramdepot).
But on a sunny day and warm temperatures this is good place to visit and sit outside - especially with/for visitors to Bern who will enjoy the view over the Aare river and the old town. As an added bonus, the large restaurant offers decent food throughout the entire day (11 AM to 11 PM), not just for lunch or dinner. Be prepared for longer waiting times when the restaurant is at capacity when ordering warm food - but Tramdepot’s beer(s) can also be enjoyed at the bar near the entrance without eating in the restaurant. |

52 Huge interior with two large copper brewing tanks behind the bar. Narrow but long terasse with a brilliant view over Bern and the Aare and some bears. The selection is limited to the standard beers and some seasonal ones. The view repays you for a small detour, so if you are close by, sit down for one or two beers. |
66 Pretty good beer and a really nice location overlooking the river and the city. Visited on my trip to Bern in 2013. |
