72 Small bottle shop, mostly specialising in wines but with a decent beer range too. Breweries from around the UK (Kernel, Deya, Verdant, Duration, Azvex) and further afield (German lagers, Belgian beers, etc.) all reasonably priced. Some beers are kept refrigerated. |
52 Back to Wales for the weekend, let’s get a few beers. Greeted by the shop’s dog on arrival. Selection is very limited as this is mainly a wine shop. Struise Pannepot, Flying Dog, Sly Fox and Kernel are highlights. Not much in the way of Welsh beers, but I picked up a couple of promising Celt Experience beers. Nothing too exciting but is a lot better than anything that was available in the Cathays / Roath area when I was in university. A row of interesting empty beer bottles across the top of the cabinets suggests that the selection changes regularly. Prices are fairly reasonable (but then I’m used to London prices I guess). |
88 Great little shop, friendly and very knowledgable staff (and honest with advice, not just trying to shift stock with fibs like some shops). Beer selection is middling in size, but varied and with good rotation (even better for wine drinkers!); the odd rare gem alongside interesting local and world beers of varying fame. Prices are very fair. Highly recommended. |
82 An off-license quite different from Discount Supermarket, in that it’s very small with lots of bottles packed into it, mostly spread around the walls.
Nice feel to the place, relaxed atmosphere - sometimes a dog hanging around.
Friendly staff who always ask if you need a hand, despite usually being busy refilling shelves.
Good selection, which is ever changing and which they are always looking to improve. Nice mix of locals and hard to find Belgians and Americans e.g. today they had BCBS ’12 and Pannepot ’11 amongst others.
Decently priced too - BCBS was £6.99 and Pannepot was £3.79-ish. |
86 Great selection of beers from across the globe. Prices are fair and the staff are very knowledgable and friendly. Well worth a visit. |
72 Great selection, probably the second best in Cardiff and the best in the Roath area.
Nice feel about the shop and the staff are are always willing to help out and advise and usually know their stuff. |
