Fresh Choice Merivale

Visited Jan 2018 - This place deserves a higher rating, I assume things have changed since some of the older ratings were done (indeed this is the first new rating for nearly two years). Extensive selection of NZ craft available featuring all of the big hitters. Plenty of interesting stuff from Europe and the US too, I spotted Modern Times (USA) as well as Weird Beard and Moor (both UK) on the shelves among many others. For a supermarket it's great.

A decent selection of beer lots of local beer and several from the US and other markets.

I was surprised to find such a wide range of local and international beers for a supermarket around these parts. Heaps of local breweries from the South and North Islands as well as further afield such as Australia, Belgium and the US. Worth a look if planning to stock up before leaving Christchurch.

Its a supermarket that has the best craft beer stock in Christchurch.

I thought the selection was small when I looked in the cooler, but around a corner there are multiple shelves stuffed with beers from all over New Zealand and around the globe, probably split 2/3-1/3. The american selection was interesting, and not as pricey as I expected. Worth a look.

This supermarket was a bit of a shock for me. Wish they had this selection of national and international craft beers in dutch supermarkets. Even spotted a Molen beer overhere. Food was pretty okay as well ;-)

The supermarket appears to be reducing its supply of New Zealand craft beers and now have very few available. What is available is available elsewhere for considerably cheaper. They do have a good selection of international beers, which seem to be taking over the shelf space of the NZ beer.

Quite easily the best supermarket selection of local and imported beers in Christchurch (possibly further afield as well). Where I go to source some of the more interesting foreign beers that I have rated in the past, also an excellent supporter of local and New Zealand beers. Service gets a three rather than a usual supermarket 1 because while you’re left to your own devices, the liquor manager and I had a brief chat once (a nice chap too).
