Bayerischer Donisl

We sat inside for lunch at this unique spot with a nice setting, good food, and good beer. I would like to return at night since it seems like the atmosphere would be better. It was slow while we were there.

Very nice old-school beer hall with Hacker-Pschorr beers. It seems they occasionally have beer from wood cask, but not when I was there. Didn't try the food.

Upscale restaurant. Nice place. Got the Edelhell from the holzfass, which was nice but also not as good as I had hoped. OK selection of H-P and Paulaner beers. Food looks great but very pricy.

We visited here Thursday 17th January 2019. It is very central, located near Marianplatz and the Town Hall and close to the the same named U-Bahn. Bayerischer Donisl is a large beer hall (and there are plenty of those in Munich). It is not unlike many of the others but what I did like in the centre was the glass ceiling up high which let some light flood in. We sat here in the centre and whilst we arrived early around 11:30am it was soon filling with a lunchtime crowd. There was plenty of the usual Bavarian sights, so expect lots of wood panelling traditional dress worn by staff and the food offerings also followed the hearty traditional lots of pork and vegetables.

I had the beer from the cask which as it was early in the day was the first one, so a bell was rung and about 3-4 staff watched as the designated member of staff tapped the wooden barrel with a large wooden mallet. My beer was very good and so was Loz's Hefe Weiße. We opted for the lunchtime menu which was torpedo shaped potato dumplings (gnocchi) sauerkraut and bacon with a large salad, a coffee and also small sweet of chocolate ice cream which at €9.99 was excellent value for money.and tasted good. The staff member that we chatted with was very friendly, we liked it here and would definitely return.

Hacker-pschor bierhaus with great atmosphere

Popped in a for a few beers before our overnight train to Budapest, around 21.30 on Thursday 07/06/18. Just off Marienplatz ... pretty sure I've sat outside of here for a beer in pre RB days. Didn't have chance to explore the beer hall as we were just after some liquid refreshment so we sat at the table just inside the door to the left. Decent enough service and selection ... probably picked up 3 or 4 ticks from a list of maybe 10 (couldn't get the internet working on my phone so was guessing what was and wasn't new.). Prices were fine for central Munich at E4 to E4.5 per half litre. Not a go to destination but a solid enough stop. Beer list was largely Hacker Pschorr but also a few Paulaners thrown in.

Refurbished to modern - the layout is appropriate, but the surfaces and furnishings are quite new. Beer is not refurbished. Food is excellent. Pork knuckle was tasty. Service good, considering I was in a group of 29.
