UPDATE 01/04/23: UNFORTUNATELY, NOW ONLY OPEN TO RESIDENTS OF THE B&B. After the sad closure of Bea's B&B in Poperinge we have been looking for somewhere else to stay and decided to give this place a go .We were very impressed with the charming accommodation situated on a working farm. The restaurant / tearoom is open to non-residents and well worth visiting. The food is typically Flemish and very nice. Beer-wise, they have a good selection from local breweries including a few from De Struise & De Dolle at reasonable prices. It's a short walk from the village and a convenient place to have lunch before De Struise opens. Recommended.

We visited here on Saturday 25th March 2017, the we being me, Loz and Ian (Harrisoni on RB). Now most people would take a straightforward route to get here, so probably something like E40 Mway get off at Veurne then head down the N8 in the general direction of Ypres and Poperinge, turning left at the lights and going past Struisse Schoolhouse on the right along Kasteelstraat and then along Kasteelweg. We opted for an altogether far more exciting and different route. We had gone to De Dolle Brewery at Esen first only for the cafe to not open until 2pm so was told about a cafe nearby out in the country that was worth going to, only to find that it was closed, interestingly so was the road that we then tried to head along, forcing us to do a three point turn and head back across country by another route. We took a rather interesting route to Schraevenacker along roads that were clearly marked for farm vehicles, horses and pedestrians only, however it was fun and we got there, how I don’t know but we did get there.

Schraevenacker is just a field or two outside of Oostvleteren and so a short walk would bring you into the village and onto the old schoolhouse for Struise and Molenhof Restaurant & Bar Oud Postje and others. There is plenty of room for parking and lots to keep the kids entertained here with a paddock with geese and ducks, a play area with a large wooden pirate ship and plenty of seating outside, the views are great as well looking out across the fields towards Oostvleteren and the church steeples in the distance.

We sat inside and despite being a little early ordered lunch, Ian and I had the fabulous Ham Hock with Mustard sauce, frites and salad, Loz had Cheese Croquettes with the same accompaniments. The food was great, however so was the beer list with some great Struise beers on offer, Ian had a Pannepot and another beer which I forget and Loz an Orval. Service was swift, Karen the owner knew Ian and so they chatted, but it was just a lovely place, very friendly and with the rooms upstairs (which were great btw, as we had a look around them) it would make a great base to explore the local area on bike. We loved it here and will definitely return again.

Nice place in the countryside of Oostvleteren. Large but cosy patio. Lots of Oostvleteren beers from Struise and Deca. Very good prices. Some vintage Struise beers for cheap prices. Food is ok and good price. Friendly staff. Nice place!

A very nice bed and breakfast just outside of Oostvleteren, and within walking distance of De Struise Brewery. Feels more like visiting friends or family in the countyside than going to a restaurant or a bar. A huge patio and playground for kids outside. Very friendly and wellcoming service, fairly well english spoken. A good bottle list with a long list of Struise (including Ypres, Kabert and other goodies) + some other locals. As we where staying overnight i was even offered a Westvleteren 12. Food was really good, the rib-eye from their own homegrown cattle was one of the best i have had in a long time. Good value on both beers and food. Would love to return some other time.

Stayed there with my girlfriend for a vew nights, to explore the Vleteren area. They offer very well made traditional food, and if you plan to stay there for the night, their breakfast is just excellent. Also the beer-list is interesting, as they offer a lot of "De Struise" beers, as they are located near-by. It is hard to communicate with the owner, as he doesn’t appear to speak english, but the beer value is very good, as prices are all very reasonable.

Visited November 2012. Decided to pop buy in the afternoon, being hungry and thirsty. The small place was really quiet with only one other table occupied with two old brothers having their weekly coffee there, or something. Grilled cheese ham sandwich was ok. Indeed a nice selection of Struise beers, pretty much the only reason to come here. Well, apart from their homemade chocolate spread (sort of Nutella, but MUCH better). Took home a jar, and went back a few weeks later to buy two more.

Update: went back a couple of weeks ago, and this time we had proper food. Pig cheeks stew and vol-au-vent (sorry, this doesn’t translate), both were excellent. Very nice fries as well. When hungry and near Struise, this is the place to go!

Great place to stay when you’re visiting "de Westhoek". Nice selection of Struise brews (even more then they had at ’t Schooltje). Friendly people, clean, bit old, good prices, food is for children (and we liked that).

We visited after recommendations from both Carlo at De Struise and Mes and were not disappointed. It’s a restaurant located about a mile east of the De Stuise School House. The interior has a cosy farm-house feel, with a nice view out onto the countryside. The owners were helpful and welcoming. The best part is they had >15 De Struise beers on offer including Pannepot Reserva, Grand Reserva and Black Albert – awesome! The food was delicious and of top quality. Next time we are in the area, we will definitely return.
